Welcome to the New Year with
Tempe Yarn and Fiber

Tempe Yarn is now a proud member of the National Livestock Conservancy!

We will be participating in the 2019
'Shave them to Save them' Challenge

The Livestock Conservancy has long said that the way to save endangered breeds of livestock is to give them a job.

In the case of wool sheep, we need to start using their wool again. Because of marketing challenges, some shepherds discard or compost the wool after their annual shearing rather than cleaning it and selling it. In addition to encouraging fiber artists to try using rare wools, the program will also educate shepherds about how to prepar
e their wool for sale and how to reach customers and fiber artists, thereby making it more profitable to raise heritage breeds.

The Challenge will begin soon!
To register for the Breed passport Click Here!
and pick up your additional breed card in-store.

How will it work?
  • Fiber Artists will buy wool from rare breed Fiber Providers and get a "stamp" in their "passport."
  • They will earn prizes for completing projects.
  • They will share pictures of their projects on Facebook and Ravelry.
  • The more breeds they use, the more "stamps" they collect, the more prizes they earn, the more wool the providers will sell.
  • Every month one breed will be 10% off all month long at Tempe Yarn
  • Every fiber/yarn of a participating breed you purchase you will earn a "stamp" for your TYF Breed card.
Along with Woolhalla Tunis , we will we will carry many of these breeds throughout the year. We will learn more about these fibers and why we need to do everything we can to keep these sheep breeds available in our world.

Make sure to read your monthly newsletter to be in the know!
