Janaya Suffered Burns in the Bathtub

Two-year-old Janaya's home life was chaotic, with people coming in and out of her house and numerous unrelated children and adults living together. After Janaya was accidentally burned in the bathtub by someone else in the home, her mother realized she needed to make major changes for the safety of her daughter. While Janaya's mother made changes, CASA volunteer Nancy made sure Janaya was well cared for and healed from her injury.  Visit Dallas CASA's blog   to learn more.
Dallas CASA Volunteer Returns From Marine Corps Deployment

U.S. Marine Corps Reserves Major Coleman Lewis recently returned from a deployment to Central and South America. He brought back a new perspective on child welfare based on his experience. " Down there, your eyes are really opened to the needs and struggles of people in other parts of the world. It made me grateful for my country and proud of an agency like CASA for helping out." After settling back into his life and job, Lewis plans to take his third CASA case this spring. Read more about Lewis and his deployment on Dallas CASA's blog.

Lyda Hill Surprises Dallas CASA

Dallas CASA was one of a group of nonprofits caught by surprise in December by Lyda Hill and her team. Arriving anticipating the opportunity to pitch for grants to fund infrastructure projects, nonprofit representatives instead learned each organization was receiving a $100,000 check, with a second $10,000 check for that extra need each organization has been waiting to fulfill. Dallas CASA will use the generous funding to enhance the security of its systems and databases, improve the efficiency of work done at and away from its building, and upgrade the audio-visual equipment critical to quality trainings and meetings for volunteers, staff and visitors. Thank you Lyda and your wonderful team for gifts that will accomplish so much good in our community.
Cherish the Children Luncheon Brings Speaker Steve Pemberton

Author Steve Pemberton will chronicle his inspiring triumph over an abusive childhood in foster care at Dallas CASA's annual Cherish the Children luncheon April 5 at The Omni Dallas. Hosted by Dallas CASA Children's Council, the luncheon will raise funds for the abused and neglected children served by Dallas CASA.

Pemberton's bestselling memoir, A Chance in the World, tells his very personal story of perseverance through difficulty, his search for identity as a biracial child and his quest to find meaning by sharing his story. Following executive stints at Walgreen's and Monster.com, Pemberton is the Chief People Officer at Globoforce and a husband and father.

"What makes a family is neither the absence of tragedy nor the ability to hide from misfortune, but the courage to overcome it and, from that broken past, write a new beginning," Pemberton says.
