Welcome Back and Happy New Year!
Dear Puesta del Sol families,

Looking back at the accomplishments of 2018, we are filled with gratitude to our hundreds of volunteers, impassioned PTA leaders, and the support of families. The first part of the school year included successful family fun events, educational programs,  and  maintaining funding for our Amity interns, teacher and classroom supports, as well as our library. Now we are excited for a fun-filled and action-packed start to 2019!

J anuary will fly by, so please be sure to save-the-date for our our General Membership Meeting on
Wednesday, January 23rd at 5:30 p.m. in the Puesta del Sol Library. In response to members' survey feedback from last year, the PTA has added a Parent Education portion. Most families wanted to learn about our ISA (International Spanish Academy) program. If you are wondering what is ahead for our students in middle school and high school and how our current curriculum is tied to a 12-year program this is your opportunity. Also, PTA invited a speaker from Camp Kindness Counts to share their curriculum support for parent-led activities in order to instill kindness and develop character strengths:  "Families Building Communities of Compassion-King World Project." Camp Kindness Counts was 1 of 16 organizations from around the world selected by UC Berkley's Great Good Science Center to partner in supporting parents in raising caring and courageous children. If you are interested to learn more, please plan to attend.

In addition to the Parent Education portion, the meeting agenda will include:
  • Current Financial Report
  • Fall Survey Results
  • Nominating Committee Election

Wishing you a wonderful and successful start to 2019!

Urgent Need! High Value! Short Term!
The PTA needs a nominating committee! The charge of the nominating committee is to recognize and recruit the most qualified people available for elected PTA positions as defined by our standing rules. The members of the nominating committee have a tremendous influence on the future of our PTA, making it the most important committee in PTA. Having qualified people step into leadership positions in our PTA will ensure success for many years into the future.

Without a nominating committee, we will not be successful in finding terrific candidates for our PTA board next year. Without a PTA board, we can't run our fabulous PTA programs. Please consider making this short-term commitment to ensure the success of our PTA next year!

Contact Pauline at  volunteer@puestadelsolpta.org . Find out more on our Nominating Committee web page.

Spotlight: Srta. Crystal Flores

The PTA would like to give a big "shout out" to our beloved kindergarten teacher, Crystal Flores. No matter the day, Srta. Flores' smile and spirit shine! This is her 3rd year at Puesta del Sol and 5th year teaching. She engages teaching techniques and demonstrates flexibility like a seasoned veteran. Those who have seen her in action know that a few "cheers" go a long way to learning. Srta. Flores provides a magnetism that the kids can't resist.

Crystal was raised in the "Palm Springs" of Washington, Yakima, where her maternal grandparents raised her and taught her everything about her Mexican culture. She is the oldest (and shortest !) of seven children. She loves to cook and often tries her grandma's favorite  Jalisciense recipes. She also prides herself in being an amateur wine connoisseur. We are lucky to have her as part of the Puesta del Sol teaching team!
