The Hustle and Bustle of the End of the Year
When we get to the last month of school, the pace seems to accelerate and there are things
moving in every direction. Just this week we've had the Live Arts event at McDowell Mountain, the Key Club Thankquet at the high school, Senior Recognition Night, and the high school band and choir concert. Advanced Placement students are in the thick of A.P. exams and for all high school students, final exams are just around the corner. There's always a great deal of fun and excitement at the end of every school year but there's also the need to not get too far ahead of ourselves and remember to stay focused on teaching and learning, and finish strong.
Since we had to modify the end-of-the-year calendar slightly, I want to use this opportunity to review those changes one more time. Thursday, May 24th was originally scheduled as a half-day for students and it has been changed to a full-day. Friday, May 25th will be the last day of school for both teachers and students, with MMES students dismissed at 12:30 p.m., FHMS students dismissed at 12:15 p.m., and FHHS students dismissed at 11:30 a.m. High school graduation is on the 25th at 7:30 p.m. and our 8th grade promotion event is on the 24th at 6:00 p.m. at the middle school.

Patrick Sweeney, Ed.D.
