After a few months of working with the City Council in Salmon Arm I am happy to report that the event is finally approved to sell a new 7 day campsite reservation. We will also offer the previous 4 day option like we did last year. Camping reservations go on sale on February 1, 2019.

More Performers Announced for the 27th Annual Festival
The 2019 edition of the Salmon Arm ROOTSandBLUES Festival happening at the Salmon Arm Fairgrounds the weekend of August 15 thru 18 will be the hottest roots music ticket in central B.C. come summertime, and organizers are pleased to announce four Canadian acts that will bring decidedly unique sounds to the event.
Kicking off this volley is the high voltage B.C. - based duo, The Harpoonist and the Axe Murderer, aka Shawn "The Harpoonist" Hall and Matthew "The Axe Murderer" Rogers.They continue to ride the wave of their latest release Apocalipstick, the follow-up to 2014's A Real Fine Mess, which received considerable recognition, including wins for the 'Blues Album of the Year' and 'Alternative Album of the Year' at the WCMA's (2015). There's no question that this formidable duo rocks audiences at all levels, whether it be via recordings or searing live performances. This act will be front and centre during an evening Barn performance and prime workshops.
Shifting sonic gears, ROOTSandBLUES announces the all-acoustic Andrew Collins Trio from Toronto. Led by mandolinist Andrew Collins along with string guru Mike Mezzatesta, (guitar, mandolin, fiddle and mandola), and James McEleney (bass, mandocello and vocals), the trio showcase a dizzying number of styles. Bending and blending genres, these musical shapeshifters land somewhere between the reimagined worlds of Béla Fleck and Newgrass invader David Grisman. It's easy to see why Collins and company have been nominated for or won so many Canadian Folk Music, Juno, or Central Canada Bluegrass Awards.
With the announcement that Garifuna Collective were on the 2019 roster, ROOTSandBLUES fans might have suspected that Danny Michel, their Canadian musical foil and all-around musical chameleon, just might be playing this year's event. For two decades now Michel has been creating a deep discography as he's found inspiration in locations from Belize to his own Ontario backyard to Canada's north. When not fine-tuning his original material , he's collaborated with Canadian space hero Chris Hadfield or taken a bite out of David Bowie's Young Americans. After hearing Michel's take on Young Americans, Bowie stated, "the maracas are a beautiful thing, out of nowhere they come and the backup voices are really moving and intimate. This is a good, good cover."And yes, Danny Michel will be working with his good friends The Garifuna Collective as they revisit some of the incredible sounds they cooked up on their Black Birds Are Dancing Over Me album.
Injecting some muscular and joyful funk sounds to the ROOTSandBLUES line-up will be Mercy Funk, a young, large and enthusiastic ensemble based out of Edmonton, led by bassist Angela Proulx and featuring the vocals of Crystal Eyo. Eyo was part of the mesmerizing Mad Dogs Experience cast that played ROOTSandBLUES in 2017. Last summer Mercy Funk followed an impressive debut e.p. with the appropriately- titled full length recording Feel Good. Look for Mercy Funk to light up the Barn after the sun has gone down.

The Small Glories Concert Announcement
Roots & Blues is pleased to announce the return of Canadian folk stars The Small Glories to Salmon Arm for a concert appearance on Friday March 1 at the Nexus On First venue in Salmon Arm.
The Small Glories are Cara Luft and JD Edwards and it has been four years since this dynamic duo played our festival, just a year after they teamed up in Winnipeg.
Fast forward five years and the two have played hundreds of shows, and received resounding raves for their latest recorded work Wondrous Traveler, and their inspired live shows.
Having played most major festivals and numerous concert dates in their homeland, and many in the U.S. and the U.K., Luft, who was a founding member of The Wailin' Jennys, and Edwards, who worked in Dry Bones with Nathan Rogers and Leonard Podolak, are sure to wow North Shuswap audiences again, in this overdue return.
Greil Marcus, the dean of American roots music journalism wrote," The Small Glories have a musical chemistry that is both connected and tight, but one that allows their distinct personalities to shine through, resulting in a live show that is as heartwarming as it is hilarious, as finger-picking proficient as it is relatable, and as Canadian as, well... it's very Canadian. But that hasn't stopped them from winning over audiences from Nashville to the Australian outback."
