A Blast from the Past

This week the original Speaker's Chair returned to the Virginia State Capitol. The chair was made in the 1730s and was used in Colonial Virginia's House of Burgesses and later in the House of Delegates until it was retired from active service in 1874. The chair's return to Richmond earlier this month was its first in more than 80 years. Its unveiling marked the 400th anniversary of the Virginia legislature, the oldest deliberative democratic assembly in the New World. I am incredibly honored to be part of this historic body.
Extreme Makeover: Office Edition

Earlier this week, the Fourth Floor of the Pocahontas Building sounded like a construction zone. This was the sound of  #TeamDavis assembling new desks to make room for the dream team so we can better serve the 84th District!
Legislation Update

The 2019 legislative session is well underway and I am thrilled to be representing the 84th District this year.

On Tuesday, the Commerce and Labor subcommittee will hear my step therapy legislation. Many of you have shared your personal stories with me over the years on how current step therapy protocols have hindered treatments for serious medical issues. One example is of a young mother who was prevented by rheumatoid arthritis from being able to hold her newborn child for six months, while her insurance refused to cover doctor-preferred treatment until less expensive treatments were tried and failed. House Bill 2126 forces more transparency and reasonableness into step therapy protocols, letting doctors be doctors and helping patients receive the treatments they need faster.

In the near future, the House Committee on Science and Technology will hear House Bill 2595, which requires information provided by the state during states of emergency to be hosted on a cloud server, ensuring timely information free from server crashes so that Virginians can quickly access the information needed to keep themselves and their loved ones safe during such emergencies.

I am awaiting the agenda that includes House Bill 2163 being heard in a subcommittee of the House Finance Committee. This bill creates incentives for film and new media content providers to bring business in Virginia and help us become a national leader in the industry. Virginia Beach native Pharrell Williams has expressed a desire to invest in his native state and several others will follow suit if Virginia paves the way for this tremendous opportunity.

These are just a few of the bills I have been working on this session.
