Hearts for Revival!

This past Sunday we kicked-off the Women's Retreat Registration - Hearts for Revival. Interestingly, Pastor Scott preached an amazing message taken from Habakkuk 3:2: "Revive your work in these years (do it again)". He taught us a simple, but life changing, prayer; "Lord, do it again! Revive us! Renew us!" This is our hearts' prayer.

As we join together, let's not forget Jesus' key to prayer in John 15:4-7, "Remain in Me, as I also remain in you." Don't miss one of the outcomes of remaining: "you can ask whatever you wish and it will be done...now remain in me."

So we remain and we say, do it again, Lord! Then Jesus says this in v9, "if you keep My commands, you will remain in My love." Awesome! So what's Your command to us, because we want to remain in You? Look at v12, "My command is this, love each other as I have loved you!"

What a statement! Sometimes I forget just how upside down the Kingdom of God is, compared to the kingdom of this dark age. There are promises at my grasp, but they come with a call! Here, Jesus wants to give us the answers to "do it again", but He calls us to walk in the Kingdom of Heaven - loving one another (not just feeling for a sister in Christ, but purposefully making a difference in her life).

Love is shown in many ways. I propose that as we plan to retreat, be refreshed, and hear from God, that we would ask, "Lord, who can I love? Who needs you? Who can I invite to the retreat? Who can I include so they know they're wanted and loved? Who can I invite from the Crossing to the retreat?" God has a vision for His church; it has big open arms. Who can you open your arms to, as you prepare to pursue a heart for revival?

Praying for God to do something fresh and new? Be encouraged as you read Joan Mathias Conlon's call to revival. And you can't miss Emma Hutchinson's testimony - an amazing story of rescue from death to a revived faith!

Wells of Revival

I was recently at a gathering of over 1,000 people who are hungry for revival.  This event brought us several speakers, including Sean Smith, a traveling evangelist, equipper and revivalist.  He confirmed what I believe is the heart of God to bring another Great Awakening to our churches and our nation.  He opened the subject of uncapping the wells of revival through Genesis 26.  This is the story of Abraham digging wells in a place called Gerar.  Wells are dug to supply life-giving water, to place a claim on the land, and to bless the next generation.  After Abraham's death, his son, Isaac, came to the land of his inheritance to find that the wells had been blocked.  He went about unblocking them to re-establish the flow of water.

My excitement grew at Sean's word because the wells of revival have already been dug at The Crossing.  We believe that our inheritance is one of revival for several reasons:  Renown revivalists from the Great Awakenings traveled to our area and dug wells of revival.  It was revivalist John Wesley who established the Methodist Church.  Our Methodist Church (The Crossing) tasted revival in 1994 when the Spirit of God fell in power.  Our prayer is, "Do it again Lord.  We want to see the flow of Your Spirit unleashed again."  Sean presented some areas to help us open the wells of revival:
  • We must have a scent for water - we must want it (Holy Spirit).
  • We cannot be content with shallow cisterns that do not hold water.  We need the real deal; we must tap into the aquifer.
  • We must have faith/a strong belief to strike water (The Spirit).  This means that we must be disciplined in prayer and be committed to cleaning out our own wells.  Every Believer in Jesus Christ has a well within.  Jesus said, "Whoever drinks the water I give him will never thirst.  Indeed, the water I give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life." (John 4:14)
The wells of revival go deep, but the enemy has blocked the flow.  We have become used to a trickle of the Spirit instead of a mighty flow.  Revival is not meant to end.  God wants our passion for the flow of His Spirit to burn brightly.  He is calling us to clean out the blocked-up wells so that they can flow again.  This is our inheritance--to be watered from the wells of revival and to live in the supernatural realm of the Spirit.  We cannot allow the enemy to steal our inheritance.  Break open the wells of revival and let your passion arise!

the word of the testimony

HE DESERVES MY EVERY BREATH!

It all happened so fast. I don't remember much, but I do remember looking into my rear view mirror and seeing the blood smeared across my face. I remember my sister screaming and crying in the passenger's seat. I thought I was spitting out teeth, but it was only glass. Ha, only! I remember trying to tap my foot when I realized I couldn't see my feet; only to realize I couldn't feel my feet - or my legs for that matter. But although that moment was easily the most terrifying moment of my life, my sister tells me the first words out of my mouth were, "God, I can't do this. I need you. I can't do this."

I'm pretty sure it was then that I looked to my left, through broken glass, and saw my grandmother standing beside me. She smiled, reached in, grabbed my hand and said, "You're going to be okay, Sweetheart. Everything's going to be okay."

A little over an hour later, I was laying in a hospital bed as a doctor pulled glass out of my arm and stitched me up. My dad was next to me trying to explain for the 10th time what had happened when I asked, "Was Mimi there?"
"Yes, both Mimi and Pop Pop were there."
"Oh... no, not your mom. Mom's mom."
His face changed from worried to confused to surprised. And then I remembered, my Mom's mom passed away 2 years prior.

I'm fully convinced I saw God in the form of my grandmother that day because He knew I needed to feel comforted. I needed the security only she could provide in th at moment.  I didn't know what was going to happen to me, but I was immediately filled with peace. Paramedics said it was the worst crash they had seen in 10 years. Doctors thought I had internal bleeding, so they rushed me to a CAT scan. Both were confused as to why I didn't have a single broken bone.

I didn't come out unscathed; I had a bad concussion, that took me out of a good portion of my senior year and my left arm has scars from my shoulder to my elbow. But the accident solidified my faith in God.

I always believed in Him, but when things would get tough I would pull away instead of drawing nearer to Him. I would blame Him, instead of clinging to Him. Now, my faith and trust are firmly placed in Him alone. He is the only thing I stand on no matter what I don't have all the answers. I don't know why things happen. I still experience pain and hardship. But God literally met me where I was at and gave me peace in a moment where there was none. For that, He deserves my every breath.
