Note from the Commission Chair

Vol 1, Issue 6 November 5, 2018

Dear Commissioners and Ex-Officio Members,
I want to extend my thanks to all of you for supporting my leadership as Chair of MIC3 for the past two years. You made me a better leader...you challenged my thinking, you expected high standards and you were there to support our vision...."Successful Educational Transitions." We are poised to launch a new chapter for MIC3. We need to revisit our strategic plan, and ensure our State Councils are established and functioning effectively. The national team, along with the leadership skill sets of Don Kaminar, Laura Anastasio and the Executive Committee (EXCOM), will make this happen! Together we will reaffirm our commitment to making a difference and doing the right thing for students.
With warm regards,
Rosemarie Kraeger (RI)

Don Kaminar (AR), Chair-Elect

This upcoming year will be a busy one, and the EXCOM will meet in late November to plan for the work ahead. To prepare, my intention is to call each of you to hear your ideas on what we need to do to move the Commission forward and regain our focus on helping military students. The EXCOM supports the Commission and our stakeholders in our goal of
successful educational transitions
. Communication is a two-way street and I welcome the opportunity to talk with you, hear your ideas, and just get to know you better. My number is 501-683-5188 and e-mail is
john.kaminar@arkansas.gov
. I hope to hear from you!

Laura Anastasio (CT), Vice-Chair Elect

Thank you all for giving me the opportunity to serve the Commission and our military families. I am excited to get started working with our new Chair and the EXCOM! It is time for us to pull together and focus on fulfilling our mission to ease education transition issues for military children. If we can keep our sight on this great mission, then we should be able to unify and take this organization to the next level. Our National Office staff, Don, our Committee Chairs, and I are all here to support all of you in making sure that children entering or leaving your state can do so with as little disruption as possible. Let’s never forget that this is the Military Children’s Compact!

Bob Buehn, Treasurer and Finance Chair

I appreciate the chance to continue as your Treasurer and maintain the work we have underway to be good stewards of the dues from all your states. This is the Commission's only source of revenue and we want to maximize it to benefit military children and minimize administrative costs. In partnership with the Chair, Vice-Chair, EXCOM, and the national staff, we will continue to budget wisely and maintain your trust with transparent financial reporting and annual audits. We will use the strategic planning process to explore new ideas and address the challenges we face, while never losing sight of the spirit of the Compact, to do the right thing for our military children.
