Sara Zeff Geber will speak about Solo Aging at the February 18th TTN meeting. Sara is passionate about raising awareness of the vast numbers of Solo Agers among the baby boom generation. She is a professional speaker and certified retirement coach and loves to take her message to communities who are interested in the well-being of ALL individuals in later life. She has recently become the Forbes.com specialist in Solo Aging and will be blogging on that platform several times a month. Her book, Essential Retirement Planning for Solo Agers, is a retirement and aging roadmap for single and childless adults.

WOMEN IN TRANSITION
A half-day workshop for women 50+ exploring what's next for them
|
We are pleased to introduce The Transition Network's Signature Program,
Women in Transition, being offered for the San Francisco Bay Area Chapter on Saturday, March 30, 2019, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, at Fort Mason in San Francisco.
The purpose of this highly experiential TTN workshop is for participants to:
- Enhance skills for successfully navigating change
- Expand possibilities and options
- Know how to create a meaningful life
- Create a "next steps" action plan.
- Engage and connect with other women 50+ in transition
If you are exploring new possibilities, rethinking your life and/or work, contemplating changes in your lifestyle or want to expand your networks, this informative workshop will you a guiding framework to understand the process of transition, with structured conversations for personal reflection and interactive learning.
What sets this Workshop apart is the opportunity to become part of a vibrant community of women, and to make connections that can continue to enrich your life and support your journey over the next several years.
This workshop will be co-facilitated by
Chrissa Merron, from the Philadelphia Chapter of TTN and one of the original designers of the program,
Luanne Mullin and
Linda Brown, active members of the SF Bay Area Chapter.

TRANSITION NETWORK
SIGNATURE PROGRAM
Women in Transition

"Change is what happens on the outside while transition is an inner process."
Do you recall the "aha moment" when you first heard about The Transition Network? Somewhere in that moment, you recognized - if you hadn't already -- that you were in a transition of some sort yourself and that there were other women out there who were just like you. And you wanted to know how they were handling things.
To help meet that need, The Transition Network National developed a signature program, Women in Transition - a half-day program for the woman in the process of exploring what's next for her.... To make the workshop as effective as possible, the attendance will be limited to 30 participants.
The general premise of the workshop is the work of the late consultant William E. Bridges. In his 1980 book, Transitions: Making Sense of Life's Changes, Bridges introduced a new way of thinking about change and transition. Bridges' view is that change is what happens on the outside while transition is an inner process.
The Women in Transition workshop isn't a lecture about financial matters or advice on what you "ought" to do. It's an experiential program for exploring your own new possibilities, rethinking your life and/or work, contemplating changes in your life-style or expanding your networks. "Changes after 50 may mean significant shifts in how we think about our identity, what's most important to us and what motivates us", says former TTN National Board Chair Barbara Beizer, who has facilitated the workshop for several chapters. "The Women in Transition Workshop is designed to give information and a safe place to connect and determine some next steps." TTN offers a community of peers and at the end of the workshop, companions for the journey!"

We were very fortunate to be able to re-schedule this meeting. We greatly appreciate the flexibility of Anne Colby and Jim Emerman, and we look forward to this special presentation.
Anne Colby, Consulting Professor at Stanford University, and Jim Emerman, Vice President at Encore.org, will talk about their research on well-being and life purpose among women and men over the age of 50. This study is a collaboration between Colby's research team at Stanford and the San Francisco non-profit, Encore.org, whose mission involves fostering "second acts for the greater good."
Colby and Emerman will discuss the meaning of purpose beyond the self and their findings on the relationship of purpose to health, well-being, and the wider array of meaningful life goals that are important to older adults. The study's findings indicate that purpose beyond the self is associated with many positive outcomes and is available to people across all demographic groups. These purposeful engagements focus on a wide variety of issues and usually emerge from individuals' own experience, interests, and concerns.
 Anne Colby is Consulting Professor at Stanford University. Previously, she was director of the Murray Research Center at Harvard University and Senior Scholar at the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. She is the author of nine books, including, most recently The Power of Ideals with William Damon. Her contributions to the field of moral psychology were recognized by the Association for Moral Education's Kuhmerker Award.
Jim Emerman
is a vice president at Encore.org, a nonprofit dedicated to transform the aging of society into a force for social good. At Encore, he holds responsibility for the organization's research, oversees the development of the Encore Fellowships program, and supervises the Gen2Gen Encore Prize, a social innovation competition for ideas to bring generations together. Prior to coming to Encore.org in 2005, Emerman was the chief operating officer of the American Society on Aging. Both Colby and Emerman have been recognized by Next Avenue as Influencers in Aging.

Fantastic White Elephant Sale
 TTN member, Josephine Withers wants everyone to know that the annual WHITE ELEPHANT SALE returns to the San Francisco Bay Area for the 60th time on March 2nd and 3rd, 2019.
All proceeds benefit the Oakland Museum; and of course, in addition to shopping, they accept a wide variety of donations, and have a truck that can pick up large items. If folks bring in donations during the month of February, they'll get two free passes to SHOP at that time. There's a calendar giving days and hours on the website.
