The Launchpad is a community 'Space for the Arts' featuring two studios that are affordable teaching, working and performing spaces for a diversity of artists--perfect for movement-based arts, aerials, music, theatre, or any creative gathering. Classes, events and rehearsals at The Launchpad are held by individual entities. Join Carbondale Arts in celebrating 50 artists of the Roaring Fork Valley during the opening reception of the 39th Annual Valley Visual Art Show at Carbondale Arts' R2 Gallery located in the The Launchpad (76 S. 4th Street). The exhibition will be up through February 22nd. Be sure to cast your vote for the coveted People's Choice Award before February 15th.
 
Additionally, view Super.Natural Photography Exhibit by Elizabeth Shields. These photographs explore dynamic photographic processes including multiple strobe exposures and painting with colored light to create otherworldly images of locally designed clothing lines showcased by local models!

Dirty Dancing Movie Night, Dance Class & Party!    
February 2 from 6-10:30pm
 
Join Dance Initiative and Mezcla Socials for this fun filled evening of Dirty Dancing!
 
Watch the 80's classic film Dirty Dancing and then have an instructional class with Mezcla Socials to learn some of the hottest moves from the film (maybe not THE lift!). Then dance the night away practicing your new moves, party style with a live DJ. Snacks and beverages and a cash bar will be available to keep up your stamina.
 
Dirty Dancing is rated PG-13. This Movie night is not appropriate for young and immature participants. Parents please use discretion.

Songrwriting Workshop with Jackson Emmer
February 10 from 9am-12pm
 
This workshop is geared towards musicians who have dabbled in the world of songwriting, and are interested in exploring it more deeply. We'll discuss: How to Stay Motivated and Write Regularly; How to Avoid Writer's Block; Tips for Accompanying Yourself on Guitar; How To Practice for Upcoming Performances; How To Break Habits and Make Your Songwriting Unique; How To Steal From The Best - Ear Training & Critical Listening for Songwriters
  
We'll also have an opportunity for participants to share new songs/works-in-progress with the group, and create a good dialogue for feedback within the group setting. There will also be time for an open Q&A with Jackson Emmer. If you're interested in taking your songwriting to the next level, and making it a bigger part of your life, this is the workshop for you.

$20/participant. Attendance will be limited to 10 songwriters. Must be at least 14 years old to attend.

Focused Families for Back to School Workshop Series       
Tuesdays: February 12, 19th and 26th with Amanda Peterson (of Focused Kids)
from 5:30-7:30pm
 
This 3 week parenting class begins by teaching parents about their child's developing brain. Through a series of easy-to-implement lessons anchored in current research on the developing brain and evidence-based practices in social and emotional learning  you will learn strategies to cultivate self-awareness, focused attention, stress-reduction, and emotion management for your family.

Artwork Feedback Night with Andy Taylor

Carbondale Arts and The Art Base are hosting "Artwork Feedback Nights" as part of their commitment to serving local artists, join for the next Feedback Night to be held on Friday, February 22 from 6-8:30pm at The Launchpad. Feedback Nights are given by professional and accomplished artists and curators in a casual environment. February Feedback Night will be hosted by Andy Taylor andytaylorartist.com. This Feedback Night is specifically designed to give feedback on contemporary landscapes.

Participation in Artwork Feedback Night is limited to four people. Artists are invited to bring works in progress or finished works for a 20-30 minute critique in a casual environment. Country Partner Dance includes lessons in a variety of social partner dances like Two Step, Waltz, East Coast Swing, Cowboy Cha Cha, Double Two Step, and more. Bring smooth-soled leather shoes or a non-street shoe is perfect. $10 per person. No partner needed.

Bachata Dance Class

Mezcla Socials Nights are about bringing a variety of Dances to the community through classes and Socials. This includes Salsa, Bachata, Merengue, Cumbia, Zouk, Kizomba and many others. Please refer to main title for current dance style being offered and Instructor(s). No partner or experience is necessary. Bring soft-soled shoes or clean non-street shoes and water.

CoMotion Company Class
Hosted by Dance Initiative

CoMotion Dance Company class is open to all levels and styles of movers. Taught by professional members of the company on a rotation basis, this class offers many different styles and techniques including modern, jazz, contemporary and improvisation. This class is also taught on occasion by nationally renowned dancer/choreographers when they are in residence at the Launchpad. Drop-ins are $10. All are levels are welcome and encouraged! 
 
NFT Back Program Level 1

The Neuroplastic Functional Training (NFT) Back Class is a unique movement-education course designed to help people independently change back problems. The class is done in a positive, encouraging and judgement free environment. The scientific principles used in the course are: Neuroplasticity, or the phenomenon that the structure and function of the brain changes as a result of mental intention, Kinesiology, or the study of human movement, and Life Education, or the practice of using strategic choices to achieve personal goals and improve the quality of one's life.
 
Due to space, class size will be capped at 16 students.

Creative Dance (ages 3-4)

Mondays, 4-4:45pm

Skills are learned in their most basic form to initiate the process of building a solid foundation helpful in the study of dance. Classes introduce students to skills necessary for classical ballet training. Gentle discipline and encouragement are combined to nurture each child's creativity. Terminology and the basics of technique are gradually introduced. Positive group relationships are encouraged. $65/month

Grasp the flow and grace. Aerial arts brings about basic body form are taught as well as strength building to get off the ground. The Monday class is full. Please email Stacy to be wait-listed.

Students must be 4 1/2 years old at the beginning of the session. 45 minute class once per week. Parents are encouraged to stay within a phone calls distance during class-time. Skills are learned in their most basic form to initiate the process of building a solid foundation helpful in the study of dance. Concentration is on establishing developmental skills needed to execute dance steps. $65/month

Interested in renting space?
The closed studio, Studio C, features 680 square feet of spring-loaded Harlequin dance floor, ballet barres and mirrors designed by and for professional dancers. This is also a great space for private meetings. The Open Studio features 1150 square feet of spring-loaded Harlequin dance floor as well as rigging for aerial silks and other aerial arts. The public can view classes and rehearsals in progress. The Open Studio can also be adapted for intimate performances. In addition, one or both studios may be rented for special events and for full days.
