Woodbury's Browning Ross Highlighted in RRCA
60th Anniversary Celebration

Browning Ross and the City of Woodbury's place in the history of long distance running is highlighted in the  Road Runners Club of America's  60th Anniversary Celebration . RRCA is the oldest and largest national association of running organizations dedicated to growing the sport.  As part of the anniversary RRCA unveiled an "Interactive History Timeline" on  ww.RRCA.org that begins with Ross's publication of Volume I, Issue 1, of the  Long Distance Log in January 1956. According to RRCA, in 1958 "t en men met at the Paramount Hotel in New York City and established the Road Runners Club of America, thus launching the future of distance running in the United States." Ross was one of those ten. He went on to form the Road Runners Club of Philadelphia and serve as one of RRCA's first Presidents.

Ross w on AAU, NCAA and Pan Am Games championships and was a two-time US Olympian. In 1994 he organized the first George Benjamin Memorial 5K in Woodbury. Following his death the race was renamed the George Benjamin-Browning Ross Memorial 5k. The Road Runners Club of Woodbury, the local Chapter of RRCA, formed in 2007, "in honor of Browning Ross," and became the organizer of the BR5K in 2008. The 24th Annual BR5K will take place June 3. Each running of the BR5K and the RRCW Weekly Fun Run honors Ross as runners pass his former home on Centre Street outbound and inbound.
