A Note from the  CAS C Staff: 
Greetings CASC'ers,

We hope you are staying warm in the midst of the Snowpocalypse this week!  While you are bundled up inside, grab some hot chocolate and give us your feedback about the Community Art Instillation. We are thrilled to introduce two new professors to CASC, Abigail Eiler and Justin Hodge who are teaching SW 305 this semester. 

Abigail Eiler is a Clinical Social Worker in the Department of Family Medicine's Ambulatory Care Unit at the University of Michigan Health System. Eiler is also a field instructor for MSW interns, and a medical social worker for United Home Health Services with a goal to improve health outcomes for patients who are homebound per Medicare guidelines. Her clinical and macro experiences are driven by her commitment to child welfare and include family support services, trauma-informed care, treating children with attachment disorders, cultural humility, and reducing recidivism in the juvenile justice system. 

 Justin HodgeClinical Assistant Professor, promotes socially just policies through his engagement in governmental and political organizations. He was elected to serve the Washtenaw County community as both the Chair of the Eastern Washtenaw Democratic Club and the Vice-Chair of the Legislative Committee for the Washtenaw County Democratic Party. Hodge is dedicated to mental health services on both a policy and individual level. He has provided therapy to children and families, case management to individuals with developmental disabilities, and has coordinated clinics for children in crisis.

Preferred Admissions
Declared CASC students are eligible to apply to the MSW preferred admissions program.To learn more, read below or contact the Office of Student Services at (734) 936-0961 to schedule a phone or in-person appointment.  Preferred Admissions. Additionally,  Prospective applicants are required to complete an  info form, prior to submitting a preferred admissions application.

Senior Audit
Please fill out your senior audit as soon as possible. If you have any questions, please schedule an appointment or visit drop-in to speak with CASC Academic Advisor Joe Galura.

Course Enrollment Petitions:  Students must submit a petition found on the CASC website to enroll in SW 300, 305 (section 1 & 2), and SW 401. If there are any questions or concerns, please email   [email protected] .

CASC-MSW Preferred Admissions Program
Students pursuing a Community Action and Social Change (CASC) minor may apply to the Office of Student Services (OSS)  in the School of Social Work for the Preferred Admission Program leading to a Master of Social Work (MSW) as early as their junior year.  For admissions criteria and additional information, visit the preferred admissions  website.

CASC Community Art Installation
In order to inspire engagement, reflection, and and community, a group of CASC minor students and staff are organizing to create an art piece that reflects the experiences of students in the minor. As a part of the creation of an art piece, we need your feedback. Take five minutes to share your experience in the minor, what "CASC" means to you, and what your thoughts on a dynamic piece to add to the space, by completing the google doc below. We value your support, contribution, and feedback! Community Art Feedback.

Senior Brinner
Join the CASC Minor Senior Celebration Brinner (Breakfast For Dinner)! Graduating seniors will participate in community building and networking activities, get information about graduation and graduation tickets, and celebrate your journey as a CASC Minor student. Participating students will also have an opportunity to record a statement about their experience in the minor, which will be featured at the CASC Minor graduation ceremony, May 3rd. Join us for an opportunity to connect with others and celebrate!  RSVP.

Interested in learning more about the Community Action and Social Change minor? James Boggs at 100: A Legacy and Lineage of Radical Social Change in Detroit

Leah Lakshmi: LGBTQ Health and Wellness Week Keynote Speaker
The U-M Spectrum Center Presents: Dialoguing with Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarasinha. Leah is the  Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarasinha (she/they) is a queer disabled nonbinary femme writer and cultural worker of Burger/Tamil Sri Lankan and Irish/Roma ascent. In 2010, she was named one of the Feminist Press' 40 Feminists Under 40 Shaping the Future, and she is a 2013 Autostraddle Hot 105 member.

Health Equity High School Summit
The summit's mission is to introduce high school students to the discipline of public health and health disparities. As a Small Group Facilitator, your role will consist of working with a small group (~6) of high school students for the entire duration of the summit. Fulbright UK Summer Institutes 
UK Summer Institutes are three-to-four week programs for US undergraduate students. Participants can explore the culture, heritage and history of the UK while experiencing higher education at a UK university. Deadline is February 6.  Learn more and apply.  
 
2019 Summer Youth Dialogues on Race and Ethnicity in Metro-Detroit
U-M students (undergraduate and graduate) are invited to become a 
University of Michigan Social Justice Fellow  to join an educational team and facilitate the  Summer Youth Dialogues on Race and Ethnicity in Metropolitan Detroit Program (SYD)  in an extended program.  Fellows will have the opportunity to enroll in a for course credit for graduate and undergraduate level, as applicable. The American Indian Foundation (AIF) Clinton Fellowship 
AIF's Clinton Fellowship is an immersive volunteer service program training and placing young professionals to support development organizations in India. Through service and fieldwork, Fellows learn about inclusive leadership in the fields of education, livelihoods, and public health. Fellows support grassroots organizations at a crucial moment of scalability through capacity building and skill sharing.

CRCC Asia 2019 Inclusion Initiative Scholarship

Luce Scholars Program 2019-2020  Boren Fellowship
Boren Fellowship are awarded to graduate students for the purpose of overseas language study, academic study, research (either Master's or Ph.D. level), an academic internship, or any combination of the above. In addition, Boren Fellowships can provide limited funding for domestic language study that will supplement the overseas component. Deadline is January 30. Learn more and apply
