November 2018
Dear Friend,

This month, I hope each and every one of you will be able to get together with your loved ones for Thanksgiving.

As you know, many of our patrol deputies, detention deputies, and telecommunicators will be working on Thanksgiving. It's one of the many sacrifices that comes with the job -- sacrifice made not only by the deputies, but by their families as well.

One of the many things I am thankful for is the love and support so many of you give to the men and women of the Polk County Sheriff's Office.

We hear it often. We get letters, emails, messages on social media, and handmade gifts from children at schools. While many of you have told us how much you appreciate us, I can't adequately tell you how much everyone here appreciates the support the people of our community has shown us. There are so many law enforcement agencies in this country who don't get that kind of support, and we will not take the good will we receive from the people of Polk County for granted.

Have a blessed and happy Thanksgiving.

Sincerely,
Grady Judd, Sheriff

Honoring all who served

We all owe a debt of gratitude for those who served in our nation's military to protect us all, and to preserve our freedoms. To all of you who served, thank you.
We scared up some good money!

Thanks to everyone who came out to experience the PCSO Haunted Jail Tour this year. We hope you enjoyed it, and are already planning to visit next year. You helped us raise more than $23,000 for the United Way of Central Florida.

FREE "Surviving Active Assailant" Courses
What if an assailant showed up at your church , business, or local theater? What would you do? Are you prepared?
We invite you to attend a free program presented by highly trained Polk County Sheriff's Office law enforcement professionals. Learn what the best practices are and how you can make a difference. This training is designed and appropriate for churches, businesses, or individuals, to help prepare citizens for a possible active assailant event.
All sessions are open to the public - the next session is scheduled for:
Tuesday, November 20, 2018
PCSO Sheriff's Operations Center
1891 Jim Keene Blvd, Winter Haven
6:00 pm - 8:00 pm
This training provides an overview of active assailant incidents and best practices about how to prepare for, prevent, and respond to an active assailant/shooter at your church, business, or other venue. The "Run, Hide, Fight" training model will be covered, including tactics and strategies of what to do when law enforcement arrives. Deputies will also discuss the potential role of Florida concealed weapon license holders and the legal justification of "lethal engagement" with an active assailant.
If you wish to attend any of the upcoming ACTIVE ASSAILANT TRAINING sessions, please RSVP to crimeprevention@polksheriff.org, and please include the name of your church or business and a contact name and phone number, and the number of representatives expected to attend.
