UFTI Collaborates with FDOT to Support Advanced Technologies Installation along I-75 through FRAME Project FRAME
I-75 FRAME (Florida's Regional Advanced Mobility Elements) is a project that will use advanced communications and traffic management technologies to optimize the use of transportation infrastructure for improved safety and mobility. The project, which is part of I-STREET, will instrument 74 miles along I-75 and 82 miles of US-301/US-441. Use of Infrared Thermography for the Inspection of Welds in the Shop and Field FDOT1
Dr. Michelle Manuel, chair of the Department of Materials Science Engineering, and her team of researchers explored the use of infrared ultra-time-domain (IR-UTD) testing as an improved method of inspecting bridge welds. To read a summary of her research or to find the final report, [Click Here].
Replaceable Unbonded Tendons for Post-tensioned Bridges FDOT2
Dr. Trey Hamilton, of the Structural Engineering Group in the UF Department of Civil and Coastal Engineering, along with his research team, investigated the use of flexible fillers with post-tensioned tendons, including performance testing of the materials and methods of installation and inspection. The Highway Capacity Analysis Webinar Series presents lectures, software demonstrations, and application examples on the Highway Capacity Manual (HCM6) procedures. Registration is provided in four sections (Streets, Unsignal, Freeways, and Highways) with the Overview included with any registration and a discount for the entire series. All webinars will be limited to the first 25 registrations to ensure questions and discussion can be managed appropriately. All sessions will be  presented between 1 and 4 PM ET on March 20-23. HCS7 Software Updatesoftwareupdate

In Release 7.5, the Streets module now provides a new larger interchange graphic that can be direction-oriented by the user. The TWSC module has been rebuilt with an upgraded internal architecture to provide more user flexibility and processing speed. The graphic has been improved in the Freeways module to more explicitly display managed lanes, left-side ramps, and two-sided weaving. The Highway Safety Software now includes the Empirical Bayes (EB) procedure and the ability to perform economic analyses.

City of Gainesville Chooses Iteris VantageLive! for Smart Transportation Initiative as part of I-STREETsubcommittee
Iteris, Inc. announced that they will be collaborating with the City of Gainesville, in conjuction with the University of Florida, to implement their cloud-based intersection data analytics service, VantageLive! in Gainesville. UF students and teachers will be closely monitoring the software to collect analysis of vehicle, bicycle and pedestrian data.

UFTI Students Serve on the Urban Streets Highway Capacity and Quality of Service TRB Subcommitteesubcommittee
Gustavo de Andrade and Fabio Sasahara, two doctoral students at the UFTI, are now members of the Urban Streets Subcommittee, which operates under the TRB Highway Capacity and Quality of Service (HCQSC) committee (AHB40). To read about what they are doing for the committee [Click Here].
The Women's Transportation Seminar (WTS) Student Chapter is hosting the WTS Symposium on Smart Cities on April 4, 2018, from 6 to 9 PM at the Reitz Union (Room G320), University of Florida campus. The symposium will include expert panelists speaking on the topic of Smart Cities. The presentations will focus on the UF as a connected campus, and they will discuss the implications stemming from the presence of autonomous vehicles. A raffle and a reception featuring heavy hors d'oeuvres will take place following the event. The Southeastern Transportation Research, Innovation, Development, and Education (STRIDE) Center is co-sponsoring the 3rd Transportation Engineering Education Workshop on May 22-23, 2018, at The Hotel at Auburn University and Dixon Conference Center in Auburn, Alabama. This workshop is open for any civil engineering faculty specializing in transportation engineering. The two-day workshop and conference will provide an opportunity for transportation engineering faculty to work together to learn about best practices in engineering education, to develop activities for their classes, and to create or further develop their networks with other teaching faculty. The Institute for Mobility, Activity, and Participation (I-MAP), within the UF College of Public Health and Health Professions, is collaborating with the American Automobile Association (AAA) to revise and compile a new version of Smart Features for Older Drivers (SFOD), a downloadable booklet that helps older drivers select cars with features that will assist them in driving and being safe. The Gator ITE Student Chapter hosted this year's Student Leadership Summit (SLS) at the University of Florida on February 9-11, 2018. Fifty-three students registered to attend this event. Also, held in conjunction with the summit was the Florida Section ITE Winter Workshop on "Workforce and Mobility in the Connected World: A Discussion of the Future Transportation Technology with our Future Leaders." UFTI Students Win Awards at the ESSIE Poster SymposiumESSIEposter
Congratulations to two of the UFTI's transportation students, Deja Jackson and Aschkan Omidvar, who won awards at the ESSIE 22nd Annual Poster Symposium. Out of 40 posters, Jackson took third place, and Omidvar took second place.
