Peter Longo appointed Ward 4 Councillor 
At a special meeting of Council on Monday, Peter Longo was appointed as the new Ward 4 Town Councillor. 
The appointment is effective immediately and Councillor Longo will remain in office until November 30, the end of the current Council term. Councillor Longo was also appointed to the Administrative Services Committee and will attend the May 22 meeting.
Councillor Longo, a 16-year resident of Oakville, is the current chair of the Halton Region Natural Heritage Advisory Committee, past chair of the regional Ecological and Environmental Advisory Committee and was a member of the Stakeholder Advisory Committee for Official Plan Amendment 198.

New PLANT initiative underway

Did you know the largest amount of available tree-planting space in Oakville is on private property?
PLANT is a new initiative that encourages residents and businesses to plant trees on their property to help the town reach its 40 per cent canopy coverage goal. Currently, the town has a 27.8 per cent coverage. Once you p lant your trees add them to the online tree counter.
Oakville Fire crews go door-to-door 

Oakville tenants may get a friendly visit from the Oakville Fire department over the next couple of months. Firefighters will be knocking on the doors of rental properties across town as part of the Home Awareness Program running from May 11 to July 31. This year crews will be educating tenants about the need to be careful while cooking and smoking.
Council business at Town Hall 

The next Planning and Development Council meeting is on Monday, May 14 at 7 p.m. Agenda items include a Glen Abbey update, the proposed draft plan of subdivision application for the former hospital lands and the 2018 Heritage Grant Program.
