Tickets are selling quickly
for this year's Night At The Theatre

Ticket sales have begun for the seventh annual Bobbye Weinberger CrimeStoppers Night At The Theatre event in June.

Securing your tickets - and buying tickets to send a Memphis Police officer and guest to the show - is easy. Just click here.

This year's event, which will be Friday, June 22, 2018, includes a performance of the musical Dreamgirls on the beautiful main stage theatre at Playhouse On The Square, at Union Avenue and Cooper Street. The reception, with sit-down dinner, begins at 6 p.m. and the show starts at 8. Valet parking is available, too.

The fundraiser has been a terrific success for CrimeStoppers of Memphis and Shelby county, and this year we expect another sell-out of all 350 seats. As in the past, CrimeStoppers supporters can buy tickets for a great night out, or buy tickets to send police officers and their guests, or do both!

"We are very pleased that this year's event honors the memory of Bobbye Weinberger, a longtime friend of CrimeStoppers," said E. Winslow (Buddy) Chapman, CrimeStoppers executive director.

Proceeds help pay operating costs for CrimeStoppers, a nonprofit organization that does not receive direct tax dollars.

See you at the show!

Seniors left alone for too long
can lead to criminal abuse or illness

Loneliness is among the many difficulties too many of our older citizens face, and it's a hidden problem.

About 3 of every 10 Americans 65 or older live alone, according to the last U.S. census and the numbers are growing. Seniors in isolation can mean illness and abuse and other sad results.

One of CrimeStoppers' programs, SeniorBsafe, provides a hotline for seniors or their caregivers to let us know if they are afraid, or think they are being mistreated. The program's website provides online resources, including a powerful
article on ways to avoid the problems of isolation.

Tips helped solve
4 homicides in Feb.

Anonymous citizen tips to CrimeStoppers led to numerous arrests in February, including four individuals charged in four homicides

Awards totaling $12,850 were approved on 26 tips. The homicide arrests were made in three cases:

* Mardracus West, also known as "Pig" was charged with the robbery-murder of a man in December on Yale Avenue.

* Jamarcus Miller and Kaci Calderon were charged in a January killing, also on Yale.

* Antonio Turner was charged in the slaying of two people in early February on Macon Road.

In total, 28 people were arrested in felony cases and 25 cases were cleared. So far for this year, the volume of tips is down compared to last year.
