IS STUDENTS RECEIVE TEN REFLECTION AWARDS FROM THE BELLEVUE PTSA COUNCIL!

International School students have received ten awards for the 2018-2019 PTA Reflections   competition Heroes Around Me , from the Bellevue PTSA Council.
 
There were thirty-seven total entries as IS this school year. Seventeen art works were selected and submitted to the Bellevue PTSA Council. Five students received Outstanding Interpretation awards and their art works have been submitted to the state level PTA competition. Three students received the next level Award of Excellence, and two received the Award of Merit. Congratulations!

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR COLLEGE CONFERENCE

Thursday, February 7, by 1:00 PM

The International School is hosting the College Conference with Bellevue High School and Interlake High School on Thursday, February 7. Volunteers are needed to deliver enough appetizers, salad, fruit, and dessert for forty people to the IS office by 1:00 PM.

FREE OR REDUCED-PRICED MEALS FOR CHILDREN OF FURLOUGHED GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES

If you or someone in your household is a furloughed government employee, your student may be eligible for free or reduced-priced meals during this challenging time. Please consider submitting an application for school meal benefits by completing the district’s online application here . Students who qualify for free or reduced-priced meals will also have access to Breaktime-Mealtime vouchers during school breaks and free/reduced prices for many programs and school activities at International School.

BITE OF IS 2019

We have 27 booths signed up so far. We need at least 50 to make this event successful!

Sign up for a booth by filling out this form online, or printing it out and dropping it off in the front office. Each booth host will receive one ticket for the event.

Parent Volunteers Needed
We also need parent volunteers for this event. Please sign up here if you can help on the day of the event.

Ticket: $10 per person  (suggested donation)

Tickets can be purchased in the front office or at the door on the day of the event.

Join the International School community for our annual fundraiser. 
This year, all proceeds will benefit the  BRAC  organization, an international non-profit helping the nearly million Rohingya who fled Myanmar last year and are in refugee camps in Bangladesh.

MIDDLE SCHOOL PARENT NIGHTS—SAVE THE DATE!

  • 6th Grade: Thursday, March 7, 6:00-7:00 PM, IS Library
  • 7th Grade: Tuesday, February 26, 6:00-7:00 PM, IS Library—The topic will be Vaping and Other Common Substance Abuse in Middle School and will be presented by a certified substance abuse counselor through Youth Eastside Services. Parents of students of all grades are welcome.
  • 8th Grade: Monday, February 11, 6:00-7:00 PM, IS LibraryFocus will be on transitioning to high school.

CITY OF BELLEVUE OPEN HOUSE TO DISCUSS 8TH STREET & LAKE HILLS CONNECTOR INTERSECTION

There will be an Open House hosted by the City of Bellevue focused on making improvements at the SE 8th Street and Lake Hills Connector interaction. According to the flyer , the city is “seeking to hear about your travel experiences, answer questions about the study, and receive your feedback on concept and design.” 

This meeting provides a great opportunity for the IS community to share what we feel would make that part of our road network safer for our students. If you can, please plan on attending and sharing your concerns and observations in the context of students traveling to and from IS. 
ANGST: RAISING AWARENESS AROUND ANXIETY
Two Bellevue Screenings in February

The Bellevue Schools Foundation, in partnership with Medina, Chinook and Odle I-Connect, and Chinook Middle School, is hosting a screening of an important film,  Angst , created to start community conversations about anxiety and provide tools, resources, and hope.
 
IndieFlix, a leading independent online streaming platform, is sparking a global conversation about anxiety through screenings of its timely documentary,  Angst: Raising Awareness Around Anxiety

Chinook Middle School will host a special screening of the documentary to open up a dialogue between local families, community leaders, and experts. The event will feature a viewing of the 56-minute film followed by an informative panel discussion. Children over age 10 are welcome to attend with an adult.

SEATTLE YOUTH ENTREPRENEURSHIP CHALLENGE

The Seattle Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge is a teenage entrepreneurial challenge competition hosted by the Seattle Entrepreneurship Club and the Little Masters Club which will be held in Seattle on March 3, 2019. The Challenge aims to encourage young entrepreneurs to innovate and build platforms for youth entrepreneurs in North America.
