VB1 MORE MAY GRAND OPENINGS

It truly is becoming a grand month of May in Ballard. The much anticipated Grand Opening for the Nordic Museum was a huge success and they are open for the general public and members, if you would like to check out what all the buzz is about.

With a plethora of beloved historic buildings boasting eclectic charm and modern structures embedded throughout the business district and neighborhood, the variety of businesses are equally as diverse and abundant.  Our neighborhood continues to grow and it is inevitable and representative of Seattle's overall growth and expansion. The positive impact of this growth and density is the addition of new interesting concepts, companies and services to the neighborhood. To that end, there are a number of Grand Openings that you will want to keep on your radar.
HERITAGE DISTILLING COMPANY -  With headquarters in Gig Harbor, Heritage Distilling Company has chosen to open their fifth location in the Ballard neighborhood. Located on bustling Market Street, Heritage offers a spirits draft system where patrons can fill up a growler of some of their well crafted creations.  Yes that is correct - refillable growlers are not just for beers in Ballard. Heritage Distilling Company is open so if you cannot wait to sample one of their whiskies or vodkas you are welcome to check out the place and welcome them to the neighborhood. However, on May 12th you are invited to celebrate their Grand Opening. There will be bag pipes, a blessing of the still and official ribbon-cutting kicking of at 12:30 p.m. Our friends at Heritage are inviting their Ballard neighbors to "treat your palate to a flight of award winning whiskeys, gins & vodkas while taking in the unique space. The family friendly Ballard tasting room boasts an extensive selection of barware, cocktail supplies, memberships, merchandise, customizable gift packs and of course, spirits."

COLUMBIA BANK | BALLARD - The new Columbia Bank in Ballard is not your typical branch style bank. Our friends at Columbia Bank have something really special planned for the Ballard community with the opening of their Ballard location as  a neighbor hub. They have designed a community space where you can enjoy a coffee or work remotely in their part bank, part community center. Customers will still be able to use the banking amenities, in addition to enjoying this community space with a video wall where you might see a familiar face or two from the neighborhood. The are set to open on May 21st and we will share more information about his unique concept as the opening draws nearer.

NEW SEASONS MARKET -  New Seasons Market is officially open in the West Woodland neighborhood at 951 NW Ballard Way and everything looks delicious. They have a great variety of local craft beer, an impressive meat and seafood department, a sustainably sourced seafood sushi to-go section and as evidenced in the picture, scrumptious  dessert offerings.

Due to Ballard's  unique, innovative and thoughtful businesses, has created a dynamic that has many regional businesses choosing to expand their businesses with a location in Ballard, like New Seasons Market. Do you have a business opening in the neighborhood or know of one that our readers should know about? Please feel free to share them with us. BEERHALLA MEMBERSHIPS AVAILABLE AT  Skål

Our friends over at Skål   are offering some fun swag and memberships from their "horn", um er, "Beerhalla" mug club, to "Enter Valhalla" where you will receive a wood-burned tile of honor with your Viking name in exchange for a contribution to their crowd-funding campaign. There are a variety of contribution levels and all come with some really great perks!

Skål is set to open summer 2018 at 5429 Ballard Avenue Northwest (the old People's Pub). The Nordic beer hall concept will be a fun addition to the neighborhood and is described by the owners Adam McQueen and Lexi as,
" Skål (meaning "Cheers" in Norwegian) Beer Hall is our interpretation of a Viking meadhall. The meadhall was the center of the community - a welcoming spot to gather or to host visitors from afar. It was the hall where stories of adventure, exploration, and new ideas were shared and debated over food and drink. It was filled with cheer.

Our great hall will offer a rotating selection of local craft beer, cider, and mead, regional wine, and specialty cocktails (with emphasis on the Scandinavian favorite - aquavit). We're looking forward to featuring some of our terrific but hard-to-find local products as well as some Scandinavian imports.

The open kitchen - inspired by the idea of a Viking butcher shop - will feature bar bites and shared plates that explore wild flavors from the woods and sea. Imagine (if you will) gathering near a roaring fire at the edge of a fjord. Here is where you'd find our food. There will be Nordic influences, traditional bar snacks, and a whole lot of meat (but meatballs are unlikely, sorry Grandma)!"

If you are interested in becoming a member or contributor check out their campaign HERE. Also, stop by their pop-up tent at Syttende Mai (in the Magnum Storage parking lot on Ballard Ave) to meet the team, sample some of the menu and welcome them to the neighborhood!
