Shamrocks and Leprechauns!
Our preschool and pre-kindergarten students celebrated St. Patrick's Day with their dads! It was a green-eggs-and-ham day (with a little bit of bacon, too). Yummmm!

It was so heart warming to see all of our youngest students enjoying time and breakfast with their fathers. Shamrocks and green bagels ---   what a fun way to kick off the weekend!

We love to see all of our families spending time with their fellow Fairmont families. Our Fairmont community thrives on all of our parents spending time with one another, and there is nothing like breakfast to bring us all together!

Important Notes from Campus Director's Update
Starting APRIL 9: FAIRMONT DRESS CODE ---   UNIFORMS AND HAIR STYLES
Moms and dads, boys and girls: We want to finish the year strong. Following the rules is important. With this advanced notice, please help to ensure that your child is complying with our school uniform dress code and hair styles.

Why April 9?
Monday, April 9, is the first day back from spring break. From that point forward, it's a fresh start at following the rules. This gives you time to get those haircuts and obtain the correct uniform items.

Every Day
Students are expected to tuck in shirts and blouses at all times. All students should be dressed and groomed according to the rules.

Solid Black Belts
If pants have belt loops, then the student should be wearing a solid black belt.

Shoes
Shoes and laces should be predominantly one color: black, navy, gray, red, or white. Boots are not allowed.

Socks
Socks, tights, and leggings should be navy, black, or white.

Formal Uniforms on Wednesdays
All students: Wear your sweater or sport coat.
Junior high students: Wear and tie your ties properly.
Forget to wear your formal uniform on Wednesday? Then wear your formal uniform on Thursday.

Outer Wear
Coats and jackets should only be official Fairmont apparel.

Hair Styles
Conservative hair styles are the rule. Hair may not be teased, dyed, or highlighted. Excessive use of mousse/gel products is not permitted. Fad haircuts and radical haircuts are not acceptable. Styles that combine buzzed or short-cropped lengths with longer lengths are not acceptable. Spiked hair longer than 1 inch is not acceptable. Hair may not be shaved so that skin is visible.

Boys' Hair
Boys' hair may not be longer than the top of his shirt collar. Eyes and ears must be visible. Hair tucked behind the ears is too long.

P.E. Clothes in Junior High
Students are expected to dress out in their Fairmont P.E. uniforms every day. Not wearing P.E. clothes will impact the student's grade in P.E. class.

Judgment Calls
Ultimately, the judgment of school administrators will dictate what is acceptable in dress and grooming.

Consequences
Students who are not in uniform or not in compliance with our dress code may be required to change into acceptable uniforms (clean but used) or be sent home. Repeated infractions of Fairmont's dress code will result in a consequence(s) that may include loss of recess that day, impact on citizenship and effort marks on report card, tie into classroom management system, conference with student and parents, or other courses of action.

Friendly Reminders
-Gently worn uniform items are available for $5 each from our Fairmont Parent Association.
-Check lost and found
-Embroidery

Fairmont Prep Students Skype with Author of Class Textbook
A unique goal of AP English Language classes at Fairmont Prep is an intensive study of rhetoric and argumentation. Students examine a wide variety of texts, including those emerging in current headlines, to decipher the tricks of persuasion's trade.

On Monday, March 19, Mrs. Silver's classes were treated to a Skype conversation with Jay Heinrichs, the author of their textbook, Thank You for Arguing. Having the chance to personally ask questions and pose argument scenarios to Mr. Heinrichs was an unforgettable experience.

"I had the amazing opportunity to speak to a very witty and knowledgeable writer," one student observed. "Having something like this organized definitely helped with using our limited time wisely, and I could absorb as much information as possible. Talking to an author about [his] book really opens up the language that the writing was created with, and personally, I was able to understand more of Thank You for Arguing in the perspective of Mr. Heinrichs. I am extremely grateful to have had the opportunity to be introduced to Mr. Heinrichs and to have some of my questions answered, and he has now gained a fanboy."

Many thanks to Mr. Heinrichs for spending his time and sharing his stories with our students. Our research and writing in AP English Language are rhetorically flourishing!
