Join us tonight for pizza dinner at 5:30 pm in Fellowship Hall, followed by a screening of the film Miss Potter as we wrap up our January Winter S
ession learning about who the imaginative person Beatrix Potter was and the legacy she left behind.
No childcare offered, children welcome - suggested for children in 3rd grade and up.
Movie is rated PG due to "Brief Mild Language" and run time is 88 minutes.

Choose Your Own Adventure: Led by Our High School Youth
Costumes Encouraged! (see below)
In Unitarian Universalism, we are
always choosing our own adventure. On this Sunday, we hope you will come to church wearing attire appropriate to your favorite fictional world, as our youth explore insights gained from some of their favorite worlds. During the service, you'll be invited to choose how you'd like to interact with these worlds, the children will choose their own adventure for the Time for All Ages. Our gift of music will be "Sogno di Volare" by Christopher Tin (theme song to Civilization VI computer game). Come along for the adventure!

This week in Religious Exploration: Imagining
Our preschool through 6th grade students will continue to explore the life of our Unitarian ancestor, Beatrix Potter--who, besides being a beloved author and illustrator, was also a mushroom expert, sheep breeder, and ecologist. There is plenty to learn! Preschool will meet in Room 103 and have their very own tea time! K-6th graders will begin in Fellowship Hall and be divided into groups (1st service pick up in Room 105, 2nd service will be listed on Nursery Window-Room 106). Our Whole Lives sexuality class for 7th-8th grade will meet from 10:45-12:30 pm and learn about STI prevention. High School Youth Group will be leading worship Sunday morning and sharing lunch off-site after services.

Our Folks...
Our thoughts and sympathy are with Jackie Hall and family -- Jackie's partner, Lloyd Orr, died Thursday, January 24th. Lloyd was a longtime member of this congregation. His death occurred suddenly, and while they were away from home. Many people in our congregation and in the larger community knew Lloyd, and this is an important time to care for one another. Please contact the ministers if you need support. As we get more information about a memorial service, or ways we can support Jackie and her family, we'll update the congregation.
We also mourn the unexpected death of Dr. Megory Anderson, who founded the Sacred Dying Foundation in San Francisco and helped create our congregation's VALE (Vigiling At Life's End) program; she was an ongoing consultant for our leadership here. In early March of 2017, Dr. Anderson visited Bloomington and our congregation to provide training and education regarding end-of-life issues; she also preached a sermon entitled "It Takes A Village to Care for Dying."
Our warm wishes for recovery to Jean Knowlton, who is in the hospital recovering from a small stroke. Jean hopes to start rehab soon. Cards are welcome, sent to her home address.
Healing thoughts also to Reverend Forrest Gilmore, who recently fell on the ice and suffered multiple fractures of his tibula.
Congratulations to Dr. Gladys DeVane, who received the MLK Legacy Award on Monday, January 21, at the City of Bloomington's Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday Celebration. The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Legacy Award recognizes and affirms those who have made significant and tangible contributions in the areas of race relations, justice, and human rights.

Reverend Macklin Will be Away January 28 - February 28
I will be taking the first portion of my sabbatical during the month of February. I will be gone January 28th through February 28th. That's ONE MONTH. As we have done before, we will increase Reverend Leite's hours to help cover key aspects of my ministry during my absence. She and Reverend McNeill will work together with our staff and lay leaders to create overall continuity. It is common practice (and also in my Letter of Agreement with the congregation) for Unitarian Universalist ministers to earn one month of sabbatical for every year of service. This practice helps insure longer term ministries. My last sabbatical occurred when Reverend Breeden and I were still serving together. So, it's been awhile. I am taking February off to discern some longer sabbatical time during 2019; I will also complete my Death Doula Training during that first week of time off. -- MAM

Inspired by last year's good work on the south side of our property, Green Grounds is taking on the west side entry area's similar problems: weeds, erosion, invasives, and no sense of place.

This Sunday -- Let's Hike!
Join us to hike a portion of the Hayes Trail in the Charles C. Deam Wilderness. We will meet at 2:00 pm on Sunday, January 27, in the former east side K-mart parking lot (behind the east side Bloomingfoods) to carpool to the trail head. There is limited parking at the trail head. Allow two hours for this hike. We will hike about an hour out and an hour back. If you plan to join us on the hike, email Ann LeDuc at

Join Earth Kin for an Imbolc Ritual
Friday, February 1, 7:00 pm
All are welcome to attend Earth Kin's Imbolc Ritual on Friday, February 1st from 7:00 to 9:00 pm in Fellowship Hall.
Imbolc represents the flush of youth, where all potentialities exist. The light is becoming perceptibly stronger and the day noticeably longer, reminding us that we are halfway through the chill of winter. It is a time of sympathetic magic where fires are lit to lure back the slowly waxing sun. During the ritual we will do an Imbolc Meditation and healing working, and we will also draw tarot cards for the coming year. "Owning Your Religious Past" Workshop
3 sessions, starting February 13
Join Reverend Scott McNeill for a three session workshop, "Owning Your Religious Past." We'll meet from 7-8:30 pm on Wednesdays (Feb. 13, Feb. 27, and March 13).
"Owning Your Religious Past" uses stories, art, and more to reflect on the faith communities of our childhood, adolescence, and/or adulthood. We'll think about the things we are eager to let go of, from those traditions, and explore the items, rituals, and experiences we wish to keep. To sign up, please email [email protected]. The participating grocery stores send a percentage of your purchases back to the church to support our operating budget. If you can't physically make it to church this Sunday, we invite you to join us via the
livestream on our website. At the church we also have screens set up in the nursery (Room 104) and in Fellowship Hall, if you need to leave the Meeting Room for any reason but still want to watch the service.
