ACRES is Indiana's oldest and largest local land trust. For more than 30 years, ACRES has managed Wing Haven in Steuben County, providing the community with an opportunity to enjoy nature through hiking, photography, and bird watching. Before the property came to ACRES, it was operated as a resort by Ben and Helen Swenson. Since 2014, ACRES has applied for and received 3 grants from SCCF for its work at Wing Haven. Although the organization's mission is to protect local land, they've found a unique way of fulfilling this by also preserving and educating the public about the human history of an area. This month, we hope to inspire nonprofits to think outside the box when applying for grant dollars. Indiana Humanities has updated their grants program and deadlines with the goal of providing funds to organizations across the state to develop and implement public humanities programming in their communities. The humanities include history, literature, languages, philosophy, ethics, archaeology, etc., and are not the same thing as the arts! Nonprofits can apply for programs that benefit the public, such as an exhibition, lecture, or reading and discussion activity. Their mission is to encourage Hoosiers to think, read, and talk--so programs that bring people together and use the humanities to foster dialogue and the sharing of ideas really resonate with their grant review committee. Network for Good is offering 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations the opportunity to apply for grants of $1,000 - $5,000 to promote fundraising activities and capacity building that can lead to revenue sustainability. The award is an unrestricted grant based on need and merit as determined by Network for Good, a certified B Corporation.
Applications are due by February 15, 2019.

For those who serve the youth of Steuben County, REMC has many programs geared towards local youth and schools.

SCCF is not the only organization offering nonprofit training workshops!
Check here for workshops hosted by United Way of Noble County, the Community Foundation of Noble County, and the Dekko Foundation. Similarly, the
Paul Clarke Leadership Series at the Community Foundation of Greater Fort Wayne addresses many of the topics included in SCCF's training series. These are low cost ($25-$35) alternatives if your nonprofit cannot attend one of SCCF's upcoming nonprofit workshops.
