On October 23, 2019, Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences (Ontario Shores) will celebrate its 100th anniversary as an organization dedicated to helping people living with mental illness. This milestone is an opportunity to recognize our past, celebrate recent achievements and share its vision for the future of mental health care by advancing conversations about Ontario Shores and those impacted by mental illness.

A Historical Timeline

In 2019, on October 23rd Ontario Shores will celebrate 100 years as a mental health hospital. To share our rich history we have created a historical timeline that takes you through the decades of our century of care.
                
Caregiver Event - Understanding Voices

On Saturday, November 24, 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. the Ontario Shores Family Council presents an event for caregivers, with presenter Kevin Healey. Kevin hears voices and has done so for longer than he - or they - care to remember. He is the founder of www.recoverynet.ca, Toronto Hearing Voices group and the Hearing Voices Cafe.

Family Education Series - Fall 2018

All families are welcome to attend one or all sessions of the Fall Family Education Series. Each session will have an educational focus and provide an opportunity to discuss various topics impacting you and your loved ones. There is no cost to you, however registration is requested.

Holiday Hockey Challenge

On Friday, December 14, 2018 at 3:30 p.m. we will be hosting the 3rd Annual Holiday Hockey Challenge. This year Ontario Shores will face off against The Shandex Group at Iroquois Park Sports Centre (Arena 1), 500 Victoria Street West, Whitby.

Admission to the game is free with the donation of a winter clothing item to support patients in need during the winter months.

Research Ethics Board Seeking Community Member (Volunteer)

The Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences Research Ethics Board (OSREB) is seeking applications for a community member to join the Board.
 
This volunteer position is open to all residents of Durham Region.
 
A community member is essential to help broaden the perspective of the REB beyond the institution.

Grand Rounds

Grand Rounds take place between 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. on Thursdays in the Ontario shores Lecture Theatre in Building 5, Level 2. They are open to the public, and can also be accessed through Ontario Telemedicine Network (OTN). 

Fall topics include: 
  • November 15: Pharmacotherapy for cannabis use disorder, 
  • November 22: Understanding and treating co-occurring addictions and Mental Illness,
  • December 13: Driving Transition: An outcome evaluation of Assertive Community Treatment Team's (ACTT) stepped care model,
  • December 20: Do concusions cause dementia?
