Limited Availability on Wednesdays from 11:15 am - 12:45 pm for Staff Meetings

Beginning March 6th, 2019, the Animal Hospital of North Asheville will have limited availability on Wednesdays from 11:15 am - 12: 45 pm. This time is being used to bring as many of our staff together on a weekly basis for staff training and continuing education (Fear Free, OSHA, AAHA Standards). It is always our goal to remain on the cutting edge of veterinary medicine and to offer the best and most up to date service we possibly can. This Wednesday staff training time will further enable us to do so. We will still be seeing emergencies but will not be scheduling appointments during this time.

Together We Can Provide The Best
Low-Stress Veterinary Visits!

We strive to provide the highest level of medical and emotional care for our patients. By working together, we can provide the best low-stress veterinary visits.  Did you know a great visit starts at home before you leave for your appointment and continues until your furry friend returns home again?

We understand that new places and new people can be worrisome to many cats and dogs, so we strive to decrease their fear, stress, and anxiety. With your help, we can help develop a pre-visit plan that we will continue to build upon at each visit. The goal is to minimize fear, stress, and anxiety and prevent increased concerns for the future.

Don't Get Bitten! Asheville is a Parasite Paradise

By Dr. Kasandra Garner
The southern Appalachian mountains are a great place to spend winter if you are a dog owner. Most days the weather is still mild enough to get out and hike or play ball with your furry friend, and the occasional cold snap or wintry precipitation rarely lasts longer than a few days. Unfortunately, this area is a paradise for parasites as well. Because we don't have the consistently frigid temperatures of the mountains further north, mosquitoes, ticks, fleas and infective forms of intestinal worms can survive even in the middle of winter. These parasites can also get into the homes of pets that spend almost all of their time indoors.
We are seeing an increase in deer tick bites on our canine friends. These ticks are much smaller than the ticks that most people are familiar with, so please click on the accompanying links and learn how to recognize them on your pets and human family members.
Brushing your Cat's Teeth:
A 4 Week Training Program

Like us, our cats and dogs benefit from proactive dental care. Good dental habits are vital to a healthy pet, not just a healthy mouth.

Our pets seldom show us symptoms of mild dental disease. Usually, by the time they show signs (not eating, dropping food, pawing at the mouth, odor, or bleeding of the gums) pain and damage has occurred. Every day, your pet's gums are progressing towards periodontal disease if you are not doing something to prevent it. Even when it reaches an advanced stage and is very painful, pets can't tell you what they are going through! Often families have no idea.

Cats who aren't accustomed to having their teeth brushed may be uncomfortable with the procedure. But how do you make it a happy and rewarding experience?

Together We Raised Over
4,600 Pounds of Food!

Thank you for your support! With your giving spirit and generous donations you helped "Warm (a lot of) Hearts and Fill (a lot of) Bellies" this holiday season!

Thank you to everyone who donated cat food, dog food, blankets, toys, treats, monetary donations and much more to the Animal Hospital of North Asheville Annual Holiday Pet Food/Blanket Drive. With the amazing amount of donations dropped off and the AHNA matching food donations (2,000lbs), together we raised over 4,600lbs of food! We think the best way to celebrate the season of giving is by giving back to animal and local organizations in need.
