Oklahoma Public Media Collaborate to Cover Elections
Oklahoma Engaged logo
As elections approach for statewide offices and midterm Congressional races, KGOU and our public media partners -- KOSU, KWGS in Tulsa, KCCU in Lawton, and StateImpact Oklahoma -- are collaborating on coverage to help inform the electorate.

We're calling this collaboration 'Oklahoma Engaged: Project Public Office.' With funding from the Ethics & Excellence in Journalism Foundation and the Kirkpatrick Foundation, the project will feature data gathering to identify the issues of greatest importance to Oklahomans, and will focus on those issues in original, voter-centered reporting on the air and online.

We're planning some events to launch this exciting project; stay tuned for details on opportunities to engage!

KGOU Enhances Weather Coverage on Digital Platforms

Warning displayed on a car dashboard
KGOU is one of 27 public radio stations nationwide providing severe weather information on mobile devices and other digital platforms through a project funded by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting -- and was the first station to send an alert for a tornado warning through the new project.

The project is being implemented across "tornado alley," at stations in mid-western, southern and Gulf states. KGOU's alerts will appear in dashboard displays in "connected cars," HD radios, and in mobile apps such as NextRadio while streaming KGOU online. The alerts are triggered by warnings issued through the Emergency Alert System, and can also be manually programmed by station staff.
