(LOS ANGELES, CA) March 6, 2018: Behind every great lead actor, there's a great supporting actor who adds color and depth to a story line. So is the case with the Pan African Film & Arts Festival (PAFF), who leads the industry as the largest Black film festival and the largest Black History Month event in the United States, but PAFF has a supporting experience that adds to its impact and reach. It is the PAFF ArtFEST!

Sponsored, in part, by grants from the Los Angeles County Arts Commission and the Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs, the PAFF ArtFEST features over  100 established and emerging fine artists and quality craftspeople from all over the world. With artistic aesthetic that is rooted in Africa and its Diaspora, featured artists present their creative works using oil on canvas, watercolor and pastels, acrylic paper, glass, ceramics, metal, cloth, plastic, wax, wire, leather, stone and more!

"The PAFF ArtFEST is the crown jewel of the Pan African Film & Arts Festival," mentions, Agbenya. One of the most important features of compelling art at PAFF are the coveted filmmaker awards! Designed by Allohn Agbenya, a Ghana native, and longtime featured Senegalese artist, Aziz Diagne, the PAFF filmmaker awards are unmatched in beauty, style and creativity.

When asked of the inspiration behind the design of the awards, Agbenya shared, " In my country, Ghana, a staff in the nature and size that I've designed are given to people who excel in their industry and community. A staff is a symbol of authority in their endeavors."

He continued, "The plates that are designed by Aziz are created with a traditional technique from his community in Senegal called 'suwer,' which is what artists today identify as reverse painting on glass. It is thoughtful in design and, most times, results in being some of the most glorious artwork ever seen."

The PAFF plate award is a majestic creation with intricate designs and a magnificent glossy finish. The PAFF staff award is a regal, three-dimensional wood sculpture topped off with a weighty silver insignia that illustrates the legitimacy, capabilities, wisdom and praise of those who receive it.
