Milwaukee Pride announces 2018 Pride Award winners
Community champions to be honored at June 8 Opening Ceremonies

Milwaukee, WI -  The Milwaukee Pride Board of Directors is proud to announce the 2018 Pride Awards, which will be awarded at the 31st Annual PrideFest Milwaukee Opening Ceremonies on Friday, June 8.

This year's recipients are:
We recognize Nikko Nelson of Mequon with our Valor Award, which celebrates an LGBTQ youth who has achieved personal greatness despite a national landscape of uncertainty, adversity and resistance.  Nikko, a trans woman, was recently elected prom queen by her high school classmates.

We celebrate Jamie Taylor with our Legacy Award, which honors an unsung hero for their lifetime contributions.  As the long-time photographer for InStep Magazine, Jamie has been a cornerstone of the community since the 1980s. After decades in print media, Jamie conquered social media with the History of Gay Milwaukee.  This Facebook group has become an invaluable resource for crowdsourcing rare content, reconnecting long-lost friends, and creating social events celebrating our shared heritage.

Please join us in celebrating these community heroes - and launching an exciting weekend of friends, family and fun at PrideFest Milwaukee 2018!  Watch for additional details about Opening Ceremonies in the weeks ahead.
