Principal's Message

Murwood Families,

As we continue to launch our Every Student, Every Day campaign, here is a video we took that asks students "I wouldn't want to miss school, because if I did, I would miss..."

In keeping with our district plan, we are sending home letters today to the parents of any student who has missed 3 or more days of school between August and December.  While many of these letters list absences that were excused for legitimate purposes such as religious, illness or independent contract absences, the letter is meant not to chastise, but to raise awareness around how absences can quickly add up. If you do need help in developing a plan to improve your child's attendance, please let me know.  We are happy to work with you to create a plan to support your family.

This Friday, we will be welcoming Soul Shoppe back to campus for our "Allyship - Empathy in Action," workshop. we'll take the Soul Shoppe skills we've learned for ourselves and apply them to supporting our friends and classmates as Allies. Students will learn a new tool, Heart Readers (a metaphor for our empathy), to notice when someone needs an ally on the playground or in the classroom. We'll also learn Ally Language so we know exactly what to say to interrupt bullying, teasing, excluding, or gossipping. Once we've interrupted, we can choose the tools that will truly resolve the issues. "Allyship" will continue developing students' self management, social awareness and relationship skills.
