Steinway* Centennial Celebration!!

Mark your calendars for Sunday, February 24, 10:30 a.m.
On March 14, 2019, our Steinway turns 100 years old. We will celebrate our piano's "centennial" on February 24 by having a Chamber Music Sunday. Our organist, Kurt Knecht, will be joined by violinist Dorris Dai-Janssen and cellist Ho Anthony Ahn.  Music will include a movement of the beautiful Fauré piano trio and the exciting first movement of the Brahms Trio #1. The service will also include, Messiaen's poignant Louange a l'eternite de Jesus [Meditation on the Eternity of Jesus] - a work written inside a Nazi prisoner of war camp. Finally, there will be a premiere of a new piece Kurt wrote for this occasion for piano trio, soprano, and baritone which will feature two vocalists from our choir, Sarah Anderson and Joshua Lawlor. It will be a Sunday to remember that celebrates our piano and the joy of music at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, KCMO.

*If anyone knows who donated this Steinway to St. Paul's, please contact the Rector.

Mission and Ministry Pledge:
Every year, in response to the many and great gifts God freely bestows upon us, we are all invited to make a pledge to the financial support of St. Paul's Parish.
Our gifts become a witness in the world of this parish's response to God's call to us to be a faithful community serving all God's creation.
The ministries of St. Paul's depend upon the financial support of its members and other interested persons.  In order for the Vestry to make good decisions on how to manage our resources, we invite you to make a financial commitment to our parish for 2019.  You can use the link below to make your pledge or contact the  Church Office for a paper pledge form.
Thank you for your support financially, for your participation, and by remembering our efforts in your prayers.

Have you ever wondered about our Food Ministry* impact on Midtown?

1) In 2017 your food ministries distributed about 450,000 pounds of food from various food resources.

2) Using standard formulas used to calculate these things, we provided about 375,000 meals to our client community.

3) With a total food ministry budget of about $45,000 we leveraged almost $800,000 dollars worth of food to our Midtown client community.

This is what you make possible when you
financially support St. Paul's Parish!

Don't miss the Chili and Chicken Wing Cook Off after the 10:30 service on  Sunday, January 27 . Bring a crock pot of chili and/or your favorite chicken wings. Everyone will taste and then vote to determine St. Paul's Chili Champion and Chicken Wing Champion. Come with a big appetite! Contact Pat Rudy
with questions.

CHOCOLATE SUNDAY
February 10th

Bring your favorite chocolate treat (or ANYTHING CHOCOLATE!)
to share at Coffee Hour.
verse of the week

Let love be genuine; hate what is evil, hold fast to what is good.

- Romans 12:9

voice of the week

Truth is divine action entering our lives and creating the human action of liberation.

- James Cone

prayer of the week

(Dear God) in these days of emotional tension, when the problems of the world are gigantic in extent and chaotic in detail, give us penetrating vision, broad understanding, power of endurance, and abiding faith, and save us from the paralysis of crippling fear.  AMEN

- Martin Luther King Jr., 'Thou, Dear God: Prayers that Open Hearts and Spirits'
thought of the week

Vincent van Gogh
Many people seem to think it foolish, even superstitious, to believe that the world could still change for the better. And it is true that in winter it is sometimes so bitingly cold that one is tempted to say, "What do I care if there is a summer; its warmth is no help to me now." Yes, evil often seems to surpass good by far. But then, in spite of us, and without our permission, there comes at last an end to the bitter frosts. One morning the wind turns, and there is a thaw. And so I still have hope.

Hosting Coffee Hour is a fun and easy way to get to know other St. Paul's members! The host brings the food and the church provides the drinks. An example of what a host might bring would be: two large pans of brownies (cut very small), maybe a bowl of fruit (oftentimes grapes cut into small clusters), and a bowl or two of pretzels or popcorn. If you have questions or wish to co-host with another member, please contact  Alison.  Dates are available.
