Bwebwenato Event
The Child Savings Account Coalition recently hosted a “Bwebwenato,” a Marshallese word for “Discussion Event.” Several dozen Marshallese families attended the forum to share feedback about the program which has opened College Savings Accounts for 200 Marshallese children. Each child in the program received the first $100 deposit into the account, and parents earned additional incentive funds by attending financial literacy classes. Coalition members pictured above are Emma Willis, Executive Director of the Arkansas 529 Program; Dr. Marcia Shobe, University of Arkansas; Melody Timinsky, Vice President of Community Impact, United Way of Northwest Arkansas; Janet Wills, Program Consultant, Economic Opportunity Agency (EOA); Delia Anderson Farmer, EOA Executive Director; and Melisa Laelan, Executive Director of the Arkansas Coalition of Marshallese. Not pictured - Dr. Yvette Murphy-Erby, University of Arkansas.
Funding for the program was provided by United Way, Winthrop Rockefeller Foundation, and the Arkansas 529 Program.
EOA Health Initiatives

EOA Offers many health initiatives for employees. To start off the new school year, all employees received a new water bottle to encourage increased water consumption. Did you know that you should be drinking half of your body weight in ounces of water each day?

Thank you to the Blue and You Foundation for funding the new
water bottles as part of EOA's employee health and wellness initiative!
August Activities:
REACH Volunteers
Volunteers from Research to Enhance Availability of Child Mental Health Services (REACH) Lab at the University of Arkansas visited the Pat Walker Center for Children to learn about the Children's House program. This group also shared research projects that the REACH lab has been working on and completed a back-to-school service project by helping with some cleaning and organizing.

Lincoln Recruitment
EOA Children's Services staff members attended the Lincoln Back to School Roundup to increase awareness in Lincoln about our Children's Services program.

Walmart Volunteers
The tech department with  Walmart  volunteered at the Pat Walker Center for Children to help get the three playgrounds ready for the new school year. Several of the volunteers noticed the need for some new playground toys so they purchased some new items and donated them to the center.
Thank you to this group for the new toys and for getting the center organized!
Teacher Trainings
Our teachers, teacher's assistants, and family advocates returned in early August to prepare for the new school-year. In addition to completing many hours of training, the teachers and teacher's assistants also visited the homes of each of their new students and prepared their classrooms for the first day of school. The children started their school-year on August 22nd. We were excited to see returning faces and new faces.

Welcome back staff and kids, it is going to be a great year!
