Our Festival in the Evening Sun supporting the Japanese Garden is just a week away -- on Thursday, July 12! Guests will enjoy fine wine, local sake, and delicious Japanese food as the sun sets in Seattle's most resplendent garden. A jazz trio led by noted guitarist Marco de Carvalho will complete the enchanting picture. All proceeds support Garden care and cultural programs.

Arboretum Foundation members turned out in force for our 2018 Annual Meeting on Wednesday, June 20. Outgoing Board President Sherrey Luetjen led the proceedings, which included a slide show about the Foundation's fiscal-year accomplishments, the election of new Board members, and the presentation of our Volunteer Legacy Award.

In the spring issue of the Arboretum Bulletin, we kicked off a new, illustrated series on garden design with a look at structure. In the latest issue of the magazine, we continue the series with a brief meditation on color. Garden writer Daniel Mount offers some encouraging words on what can be tough challenge for many gardeners: choosing and combining foliage and flower colors.

We are pleased to announce that the winner of our online Loop-Trail-themed Photo Contest is local artist and Spanish instructor Urania Perez. Her photo of sunlight breaking through trees next to the trail (cropped here to fit our newsletter format) will soon become the next postcard in our new Arboretum postcard series, available at the Gift Shop.
