Don't Miss the Garden Party!

Our Festival in the Evening Sun supporting the Japanese Garden is just a week away -- on Thursday, July 12! Guests will enjoy fine wine, local sake, and delicious Japanese food as the sun sets in Seattle's most resplendent garden. A jazz trio led by noted guitarist Marco de Carvalho will complete the enchanting picture. All proceeds support Garden care and cultural programs.

Annual Report Online

With the new Centennial Garden, Loop Trail, and more, it's been a busy year at the Arboretum! Read all about the Foundation's 2017-18 activities in our Annual Report, now available online. The report also features information on some of our upcoming projects and initiatives. In addition, you can peruse a copy of the Foundation's full, audited financials for 2017 on our website. 
A Lively Annual Meeting

Arboretum Foundation members turned out in force for our 2018 Annual Meeting on Wednesday, June 20. Outgoing Board President Sherrey Luetjen led the proceedings, which included a slide show about the Foundation's fiscal-year accomplishments, the election of new Board members, and the presentation of our Volunteer Legacy Award.

Summer Bloomers for Sale!

Buy plants for your garden while helping support your favorite park!
Our  Plant Donations Nursery  has a great selection of summer-blooming perennials, including potted sedum, daylily, phlox, and lewisia. The wonderful selection of big-leaf hydrangeas in the  Pat Calvert Greenhouse  is starting to flower. There, you'll also find dwarf aster, gentian, and Cistanthe grandiflora.
Elements of Design: Color

In the spring issue of the Arboretum Bulletin, we kicked off a new, illustrated series on garden design with a look at structure. In the latest issue of the magazine, we continue the series with a brief meditation on color. Garden writer Daniel Mount offers some encouraging words on what can be tough challenge for many gardeners: choosing and combining foliage and flower colors.

Loop Trail Photo Contest

We are pleased to announce that the winner of our online Loop-Trail-themed Photo Contest is local artist and Spanish instructor Urania Perez. Her photo of sunlight breaking through trees next to the trail (cropped here to fit our newsletter format) will soon become the next postcard in our new Arboretum postcard series, available at the Gift Shop. Congratulations Urania! And thank you to all the other entrants for your beautiful submissions.
Shop Volunteers Needed!

Managed by the Foundation and staffed by volunteers, the Arboretum Shop at the Graham Visitors Center features gifts, books, and greeting cards for plant and nature lovers of all ages. It raises important funds for the Arboretum. New Shop volunteers are always welcome! W e especially need help with staffing on Sundays. If you're interested, email us at
