March is Social Work Month!
"I am inspired by knowing that I am not here for myself, but I am here for others." - Sandra
Care Managers: The Heart of Cornerstones....
Care managers, like Sandra, are the heart of what we do everyday at Cornerstones - providing  the critical support and advocacy needed to stabilize those in need of food, emergency shelter, affordable housing, quality childcare and other human services.   Our care managers, meet our clients where they are on life's journey - providing stability - giving them hope for the future and the opportunity to succeed.

Sandra recalls watching her own mother struggle to make ends meet, how hard it was for her mother and how much she wanted to help her. "I wanted to find a way to help others when times are tough, when they can't do it by themselves." As a Cornerstones Care Manager, Sandra practices integrated care management which is a "wrap-around" approach to support services. She works with clients to identify goals and create an action plan to help move clients from urgent need to self-sufficiency.  Based on client requirements, she locates resources and referrals for a wide-range of support services such as emergency food or financial assistance, dental or medical assistance, citizenship classes, employment services, eviction prevention, childcare, computer courses and so much more. This "wrap-around" service approach means it is not unusual for Sandra to spend years supporting and guiding a single client.

Thank you to Sandra and all Cornerstones' Care Managers who are dedicated to enhancing the well-being of others, especially the most vulnerable in our community.

Have Long Lasting Impact. Become a Sustaining Donor Today.
The support care managers, like Sandra, offer our clients is only because of the generous support of our compassionate community.  Thank you!

Consider becoming a sustaining donor to Cornerstones. Just as Sandra is able to provide long-term, continuous care to keep our clients moving toward their goal, your recurring donation means that Cornerstones can continue to provide sustainable, long term support services and referral programs that our care managers use every day. Become a sustaining donor today.

36th Annual Benefit Performance of Capitol Steps
The 36th Annual Benefit Performance of Capitol Steps  took place at the Hyatt Regency Reston on January 27th, before a sold out crowd of 700 guests who came for an evening of comedic political satire all to support an important cause - to help families in Cornerstones' Embry Rucker Community Shelter move to permanent housing.

Thank you to our co-chairs Susie Sylvester Duggal of Dev Technology Group and Bob Van Hoecke of Regulatory Economics Group and our Presenting Sponsor The Long and Foster Companies. The generous support from sponsors and donors raised over $400,000. Proceeds benefit the programs and comprehensive support services that provide safe and stable homes for individuals and families who are homeless and at risk in our community.

A MESSAGE FROM OUR CO-CHAIRS SUSIE DUGGAL & BOB VAN HOECKE

"This year we had the honor of co-chairing the 36th Annual Capitol Steps performance to benefit Cornerstones, an organization we are both proud to support. Thanks to the support of sponsors and the generous local community we surpassed our goal of raising $400,000!

During the Empty the Shelter paddle raise, we were reminded of Cornerstones' hypothermia prevention program, so critical to the community in the cold of January. March marks the end of the the current hypothermia season. This year, over 300 individuals were served December-March through this program. Donations raised at Capitol Steps support this and all the other essential programs available through Cornerstones for the most vulnerable in our community.  Cornerstones would not be here without your support.  Thank you."
