Earlier this fiscal year, MBDA, an agency of the U.S. Department of Commerce, awarded nearly $1 million to promote minority women entrepreneurs as engines of economic growth in their communities. This
statement made by MBDA National Directory Henry Childs at the award presentation ceremony bears repeating here: "Minority women are the fastest growing population of entrepreneurs. While many women are making tremendous strides in the business world, they still face obstacles as entrepreneurs. MBDA has and will continue to advocate for growing women's economic opportunities to empower women across the country to reach their economic potential."
Looking ahead to General Assembly session closings, minority manufacturers and industry resource providers, service providers, and advocates must continue to educate legislators on minority business achievements and needs. Stay tuned for a events we are planning, a roundtable discussion about supplier diversity in manufacturing and a regional summit
Also, this week we will be participating in the relaunch of the Baltimore City Mentor Protege Program with an Open House for the Port Covington Development Project. At 235 acres, Port Covington is one of the largest urban revitalization efforts in the United States and the redevelopment of Port Covington will have a fundamental and far reaching positive impact on the Baltimore region.
By participating in this selective program, Protégés will receive technical and management assistance by industry leaders in order to grow their business, build new professional relationships, achieve project success and access to future opportunities.
