Dear Parents,
I just want to share with you again what a wonderful job our students are doing and what an immense joy it is to have their voices filling our halls and classrooms once again at SBCS! And while everyone is excited to be back to in-person instruction, we know that it has also been a big adjustment for our students. Not only have they been out of school and the routine of school for almost 6 months, their return to school has involved some pretty big changes...masks, temperature checks, and physical distancing to name a few. Our teachers are working hard to address these changes and provide students with as normal a school day as we can. Overall, the children have proven themselves to be wonderfully resilient, joyful and happy to be back with their friends (masks and all). At the same time, we know that there can be some anxiety with any new school year - let alone, one that has been 6 months in the making during a pandemic. So for that reason, if you observe any anxiety at home, please remember that we do have a school counselor this year, Ms. Opal Ritchie. She is very happy for you to email her directly at oritchie@saintbenedictschool.org and together you can discuss the best next steps to support your child's success.
Also, as usual, in all grades, the first few weeks of school are a time for review and assessment to help us address the learning needs of our students. Students coming back from a normal summer break always receive some review time from teachers to get reacquainted with lessons learned from the previous school year. With the challenges of distance learning in the Spring and the considerable time away from school in general, our goal is to get our children back on track - (if they aren't already) - as quickly as possible. To that end, for grades 2-8, we moved up our Performance Series standardized testing, to help determine the needs of our classes and individual students. We always appreciate feedback and communication from our families. If you have any specific questions regarding your child's academics, please email your teacher directly, and you are always welcome to email me at scruess@saintbenedictschool.org. Parents are a great support to their students by helping with organization, checking in regularly with grades, reaching out to teachers with any questions and encouraging a positive attitude every day!

Media Release Form
Parents, as you know, we try to capture images and videos of life at SBCS throughout the school year...special moments and activities and even some of those small moments from the day that we think you would appreciate. These are also very important to our social media and marketing as a school. When you signed your SBCS contract each year, you also signed a photo release form. The Diocese would now like for all schools to use the same standardized media release form, (so we've created a fillable .pdf that you can complete and return electronically) which is attached HERE. We need one form returned from every SBCS family by next Monday, September 21. If we don't receive your form, we won't be able to take pictures or videos of your students.

Uniform Check
Have a question about our uniform guidelines? Check out the information on our website (located under School Life).
Have You Logged Into ParentsWeb?
ParentsWeb is where you can check grades, log volunteer hours and check your middle school student's schedule. With interim grades coming out later this month, be sure to login. Don't know how? There are 2 ways:
1) Go to our website and click on ParentsWeb in the top left corner. (Need directions, click here).
2) Download the RenWeb Home app to your smartphone. It's available on Google Play and in the App Store. There's a $4.99 cost for the year, but it keeps everything conveniently handy if you like!
Lunches
Please remember to send in utensils and napkins in your children's lunchboxes each day. Since the children are eating in their classrooms at their desks, it really helps for them to have everything they need to enjoy their lunches.
Ordered YayLunch, but your child is sick?
Please email YayLunch asap at info@yaylunch.com ! They can usually cancel lunches if they are notified before 9am that day.
Can't Find Your Newsletter?
We archive our newsletters on our website - under the School Life>>Parents Tabs>>Newsletter. You can access them here.

Please remember that we are one community that is supportive and respectful. As in any year, from time to time teachers and students may be out of school. Please respect privacy and don't jump to conclusions.Whenever a member of the school community has a confirmed case of COVID-19, we will work with the Diocese and the Health Department to make sure close contacts are notified so they may take appropriate action inline with CDC guidance.

Attention 8th Grade Parents! St. Mary's High School Information Night
(From Jennifer Joss, St. Mary's High School Night Coordinator)
High School Information Fair - hosted by Saint Mary's Catholic School
this year, via Zoom! Thursday, October 1 * 7pm
Representatives from various high schools have been invited to give a 2-minute presentation. The zoom session will be recorded, so if that time doesn't work for you, there's still a chance to see it! While live participation is not required, we hope the reps will be available to answer questions in the chat box during the session.
In order to maintain privacy and security, we will not be posting the zoom link publicly, so we ask that you rsvp here, via this google form:
We will email the login information a few days before the event. If you know you are unable to attend, but would like the recording sent via email, please complete the form.
Attention Girls in Grades 5-8! St. Gertrude Middies Program (Grades 5-8)...
(From Fran Pochily, Benedictine High Schools of Richmond Athletic Director)
WOW! What a wonderful response for our Middies Field Hockey and Volleyball Teams!
It is clear that the girls want to play and I'm so happy to know that! I am currently working to contact the other teams/schools/leagues that we typically play. If we find that we don't have enough teams to compete with, we hope to run a series of clinics, once a week, for the girls to be able to learn and/ or advance in their sport, be with their teammates and work with the coaches. We plan to start at the beginning of October and run through early November.
For Field Hockey- we would continue to have our program at our Outdoor Athletic Center (490 Scott Road, Richmond, 23227). We will plan to host clinics (or practices if we can get some games on the schedule) on Mondays 5-6:30pm starting in October.
For Volleyball- we will now be practicing at the new campus, 12829 River Road, Richmond, 23238. In the past, practices were very late in the day (7:30-9pm) but with two gyms now, we can move this time up earlier so most likely a 6:30pm start time on a day to be determined. We may still enter the RVC League if there are enough teams to play, but again, we would host clinics if not.
Many of you have sent me questions, which I hope I have addressed here, but please let me know if there is anything I'm missing. If you'd like to attend the clinics/participate this year, please complete this form: https://forms.gle/b2JoUvgq4HeZTkMu5
