This Week at BJBE
January 14,  2019
A Note from Rabbi Jason Fenster

Dear Friends,

There is beautiful synergy between our Jewish and American calendars this year. Next Monday, we will celebrate Tu B'Shevat, sometimes called "the birthday of the trees." It is a day for planting seeds so future generations can enjoy the sweetness of their fruit. It's a day about building and sustaining legacy. On Monday, we will also commemorate the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a man who dreamt of a world filled with fairness, equality, compassion, and justice. What seeds will we plant? What will future generations sow? While offices and schools may be closed,  at BJBE it is a not a day off...it is a day on!  For the 6th consecutive year, we are hosting a  Day of Service with projects at BJBE and across the North Shore.

Spots are filling quickly! Click  here  to find the right opportunity for your family. This year, for the first time, we will also host an advocacy training for teens and adults. In addition to our work to provide immediate support to those in need, we will learn skills and strategies to address the root causes of those problems and make lasting change.  Our Day of Service begins at BJBE at 12 noon  with songs and prayers to send us on our way. Snacks will be available in the Beit Café for purchase.
Scroll down to find more information, including collections and registration.

For those interested, particularly those who attend Symposium, I am excited to announce that I will be preaching at Christ United Methodist Church in Deerfield on Sunday. Service begins at 10:00am, followed by Fellowship and I will speak about the commitment that people of faith share: to speak with prophetic and moral clarity for creating a world filled with justice, peace, and compassion.

I hope you will join us for a meaningful weekend of fellowship, celebration, and service.

L'Shalom,
Rabbi Fenster
