Breaking News!

A Note From Pastor Linda

Dear Friends~
This reprinted from Sunday's Hosanna Times:

Breaking News! Hosanna Summer Worship returns to Hosanna!
Along with lots of other COOL STUFF!

While Summer Lakeside Worship has been a tradition at Hosanna for many years, the Leadership at Hosanna (both Council and Staff) have made the decision to return to Hosanna for Summer worship. This will be a one-year trial after which the Leadership will re-evaluate. We will worship OUTSIDE on our grounds- just outside the Great Hall- where there will be more room for shade opportunities, the availability of indoor seating and viewing if needed and the opportunity to introduce some after-worship fun activities for all ages! (See the preliminary schedule.)

This decision has not come without much conversation- weighing both the pros and cons. This decision is also based on some new rules and regulations that have been shared with us through the City of Forest Lake.
  • These past two years we have been "grandfathered in", using the space at no cost UNLESS there is an active, paying reservation. This year we would be required to pay the electricity charge- this year waiving the reservation charge unless there is an inquiry.
  • This last year we actually got bumped for the space twice- one week it rained so we worshiped at Hosanna anyway, the other week we reached out to the party and shared space but had to pack up quickly.

There are many benefits to returning/staying home for Summer Worship. Consider this:
  • Many members have shared that they rarely come to the Lake because there is not enough shade and no bathrooms close enough to accommodate their needs.
  • Summer is a time that many people begin looking for a home church.
    • A new member shared that when looking for a church, they did not want to visit us at the lake- they wanted to see us at Hosanna!
    • Hosanna looks abandoned on Summer Sundays- that's odd for a church!! We do leave a message on the door, on our website and on the sign- but the average person driving by could think we are closed- while heading to the next church down the road!
    • We have a beautiful site. We care for our many gardens and grassy areas all summer long... and no one is here to enjoy them!
    • We can control the watering and cutting of the grass- no more soggy Sundays due to water sprinkling on Sundays mornings.

And hey- you can still see the lake from our worship space!! ;-)

See you in church!
 ~Pastor Linda

PS- Much care was taken in the conversations surrounding this decision. The Council and Staff are available for questions or concerns. Rob Anderson will be taking the lead on this transition.

Update on St. Andrew's Family Shelter in Hugo

Renovations at the St. Andrew's family shelter in Hugo continue to move along with the help of volunteers form a number of area churches. Renovation work is typically on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. If you would like to get involved with this project contact Debbie Larson at 651-762-9148 or [email protected].

The Community Resource Center at St. Andrew's is hoping to begin placing families in the shelter starting the first part of July. That is when we, as a church, will get the opportunity to put our hearts of hospitality to work as volunteers for the dinner and overnight shifts. Now  through
 Sunday, May 6

It's BACK!!!!!!
The Green Earth Team's 8 th annual plant sale is kicking off on Sunday, April 8 th!

GET members will be taking orders for flowers, baskets, gift cards, plants and herbs at the table outside of the Great Hall through Sunday, May 6 th.

Orders will be delivered and available for pickup on Saturday, May 12 th, and Sunday, May 13 th, 9-noon on both days, in the Lakeside room. Items not picked up during those times will be left on the table In the Lakeside room.

In addition to placing orders through the plant sale, the community fundraising will again be offered to Hosanna members and friends. When shopping at Forest Lake Floral, a buyer can mention "Hosanna" upon checking out, and 10% of those sales will be returned to the GET. This opportunity is available through June 15 th, and certain restrictions apply.

Thanks to the generous support of Hosanna members and friends, all proceeds from the GET's sales have gone back to help support various projects in and around Hosanna, that fit into the mission of the GET: To promote sustainable church functions and practices by identifying and sharing innovative methods, offering policy recommendations, and encouraging staff and members to incorporate green environmental practices into their offices, homes and communities.

If you are interested in learning more about the plant sale, or what the Green Earth Team is all about, please contact Kathy Okeson at [email protected], or 651-206-1676. Thank you once again for your support of this fundraiser to benefit the needs of Hosanna Lutheran Church.

at the 10:30am Worship Service

Please fill out a Graduate Recognition form  here. Form needed by May 13th.

When our children were young we brought them to the font to begin a new adventure. Now as they are leaving on yet another journey, we bring them back to the font to be blessed and sent forth.

As we bless each graduate they will receive a special blanket created by our quilters, tied by peers in confirmation and faith formation to remind them that wherever they lay their head, God and the prayers of their home church go with them. Then all family and friends of graduates will be invited to lay hands upon these young adults. To conclude and commemorate this event a class picture will be taken after service.
