Making Comfort Foods A Little Healthier
With several cold months left to come, many of us will be searching for comfort food to warm up. While these can be great for the soul they’re not always a great fit for a healthy diet.

Foods such as Chicken pot pie, mashed potatoes, and macaroni and cheese sure do taste good, but they are typically high in calories, saturated fat and sodium.

Try making some of your favorite foods a little healthier this winter with these simple changes:
  • Substitute whole-grain pasta for regular pasta
  • Instead of deep frying foods, try oven baking instead
  • Swap oils, eggs, and creams with healthier items such as low-fat milk, applesauce, and egg whites
  • Use herbs and spices instead of salt
  • Use light or low fat dressings and condiments. Better yet, skip them altogether!
  • Enjoy smaller portions of your favorite comfort foods

Give to AgeWell Services
AgeWell Services prepares and delivers 1,600 meals each day to Seniors in Muskegon, Ottawa and Oceana Counties, but the need for our services continues to grow daily. A donation of any amount can go a long way towards helping deliver hope to seniors.
Volunteering is also a great way to give to AgeWell. It is only through the dedicated service of our volunteers that we are able to meet the needs of so many seniors in our area. An hour a week can make a huge difference!
