CAMBA Offers Insights into Legal Concerns Over Immigration
In late January, New Yorkers flocked to Holy Cross Church on Church Avenue to learn more about increased immigration restrictions. CAMBA Legal Services' Alex Moreira was one of a few community members to sit on a panel and outline upcoming changes. During his presentation, Alex emphasized that it was critical to seek legal representation before appearing in immigration court. Overall, the event seemed to provide attendees with needed resources, as well as instructions on how to receive more targeted assistance. "This is a very hard-working community," Alex said. "Our clients don't really have the time to sit in front of the T.V. and digest everything that's coming at them in the news."

On  Wednesday, February 8,  an attorney from CAMBA Legal Services, along with other immigration experts, attended another community information session, hosted by Council Member Jumaane D. Williams, New York State Senator Kevin S. Parker and other elected officials.

Honoring Excellence in Youth Development
Congratulations to Wesner Pierre, VP of Education and Youth Development, who recently was awarded the 2017 PASEsetter Award from PASE. This award honors professionals in education and youth development who devote themselves to ensuring that children have access to the supports they need to be successful in school.

" Afterschool programs play a transformational role in the lives of children living in poverty "  said Fern Khan, Dean Emerita, Division of Continuing Education at Bank Street College and President of PASE ' s Board of Directors.

We're proud of Wesner and our amazing entire Education and Youth Development team for all of their hard work to bring meaningful programs to our young clients in Brooklyn and beyond.
CAMBA Community Steps Up to Stop Violence

CAMBA's Teen Action programs hosted an incredible Stop the Violence event on Friday, January 6 in partnership with Brownsville In Violence Out, DYCD Youth Connect, Save Our Streets Crown Heights and NYPD. This well-attended event at Brevoort Cornerstone Community Center featured inspiring stories from the program's young participants, moving speeches from community partners and ended with a rousing performance from the Fearless Steppers, a teen step team at one of CAMBA's community centers. We look forward to hosting more of these events in the future as we continue to work to reduce gun violence in New York City.
Atlantic House Shelter Clients to Take Snazzy New Sneakers with Them on Their Journey

On a frigid Saturday morning in January, a van arrived outside Atlantic House with bags of lovingly donated sneakers from local do-gooder, Malique Smith, and the team behind Heeling Soles. Steven A. Muir, Sr., who founded the nonprofit said that the idea behind Heeling Soles was to give "you something to get you on your journey." Thanks to the work of Malique and Heeling Soles, clients of Atlantic House Men's Shelter received pairs of gently used, high-quality sneakers. (If you happen to be a collector yourself, you might consider sending a line to info@heelingsoles.org and offering up any pairs you're willing to part with.) As our shelter clients move forward into permanent housing, they will take with them these handsome shoes, along with a boost of self-confidence.
