Community Vision
|
10-year Community Vision
to the Chico City Council.
This vision outlines our standards and expectations for...
1. A safe community
2. Healthy city government
3. Thriving anchor businesses
4. Vibrant shared spaces
5. Premier facilities and community amenities.
The vision outlines common goals that will move Chico forward. Chamber partnership and membership now mean standing together to achieve a common vision for Chico that meets all of our expectations. We are certain that the Chamber, along with our members and partners, will make a difference in this community for the better, and it all starts with our Community Vision.

"If there are 5 steps between us, I am willing to walk 3." This was the resounding philosophy behind the work of Deborah Elam (pictured here) when she served as Chief Diversity Officer for General Electric. She didn't coin the phrase, but she now shares it when teaching executives how to bridge divides, whether they are diversity related or political in nature. Be the one to take that extra step, she coached me and my fellow chamber executives, it's worth it. I took her message home from a recent ACCE board meeting and thought about its many applications in business and in the community of Chico, particularly during this election year.
The Chamber no longer endorses candidates - it's a policy decision we stand firmly behind. Instead, we educate, inform, and engage our members in the election process. On September 5
th
, from 8:30 a.m. - 10:00 a.m. at the CARD Center, we'll host a City Council Candidate Forum, moderated by members of our Board. If we believe every healthy community starts with healthy businesses, as our Community Vision so articulately defines, then you can bet our questions will focus on our business climate, economic development, and the reason so many businesses operate here: our quality of life. Please save the date and bring your questions with you. If you're like me, you'll be listening intently for examples of those 3 steps so necessary to make change.
If you're looking for a hands-on way to get involved, our new Fire Chief Steve Standridge is now inviting members of the business community to participate in a Citizen's Academy. The Academy is taught by CFRD and includes operating equipment, rappelling from a building, and participating in a Live Burn exercise. To request an application, contact Chief Standridge.
I recently hit my 10-year anniversary as a Chico resident and noticed a well-defined trend in my family: when we reach a milestone - birthday, anniversary, "Super Reader" award - we usually top off our celebration with Shubert's ice cream. This year Shubert's turns 80 and I can only imagine how many celebratory ice creams they've sold in that time. Come help us toast their milestone at our Summer Bash on May 31
st
at Patrick Ranch. As my kids will tell you, every day is a good day for ice cream.

Action News Now
team gave us a tour of the TV studio, we visited with the anchor team and had the opportunity to sit at the news and weather sets.
We are looking forward to seeing you all at the

Young Professionals Organization
|
|
We had such a great luncheon panel in April! It was at the Idea Fab Lab and we had the privilege of hearing from some of the most accomplished and inspiring entrepreneurs in Chico:
Kaliahna Baxter, Happy at Home;
Arielle Danan, Beber - Fresh Almondmilk;
Dan Richardson, Dutch Bros Coffee;
Mark Sorenson, Social High Rise
. If you missed it, the conversation can be hears soon at chicochamberpodcast.com. Be sure to have a pen and paper handy for notes! One of my favorite takeaways was from Mark Sorenson with Social High Rise. He said, "Don't underestimate how much people want to help you." I think that's so fantastic!
And it leads perfectly to my next topic, our mentorship program!
The mentor matching has been completed and our YPO mentees have been notified who their Chico Chamber Director mentors are. The relationships are being established! I'm excited to see the growth in our young professionals as they participate in this unique opportunity.
Last Friday, a few of the YPO Committed Leaders and I had the privilege of delivering three donation checks to the following local non-profits: Chico Branch of the
Butte County Library
,
Chico Food Project
and
Habitat for Humanity Butte County
. These donations were a result of our March Mixer contributions! We also got to hear a little bit more about each organization and how they were going to use the donations. Such a special experience! Thank you, again, to
Sierra Nevada Brewing Co.
for hosting a fun night and to everyone who attended!

COMMUNITY IMPACT PARTNERSHIP
Businesses making an investment in our community
|
|
In addition to traditional membership, we now have four tiers of investment which allow businesses to support their own mission through the Chamber's advocacy work, economic development partnership, and targeted activities that benefit Chico's economic health and high quality of life.
Businesses choosing partnership will stand with us as we do some of the most important and influential work being done in our community right now, and will make a lasting difference.
Every successful community is built on a foundation of successful businesses creating jobs and economic possibilities. And every successful business is built on strong and enduring relationships. Through your membership or partnership, let's keep Chico businesses and our local community flourishing.
