MEET THE NEW PTA PRESIDENT
|
My name is
Ayat Abu Halimah, and I am honored and excited to serve as your PTA President for the 2018-2019 school year. This is our family's fifth year at Discovery School, and it is my second year on the PTA board. I have three kids at Discovery School: a kindergartener, a fourth grader, and a fifth grader. I also have a sophomore at Central Magnet.
I have a lot of fresh ideas and things to do for the coming school year, and I need you all to make this possible by your membership and volunteering. Enjoy your summer, Explorers, and I'll see you after the break. If you have questions, please contact me at
[email protected] or through the
Discovery School PTA Facebook page.

PTA YEAR IN REVIEW
|
What has PTA has done this year?
Discovery PTA has invested heavily in our most important resource, our teachers. PTA-funded Teacher Enrichment allowed visits to Discovery from a specialist in the field of gifted education and a half-day seminar from a specialist in the field of diversity and inclusion in public education. PTA has paid registration fees for many of the seminars and conferences our teachers have attended. Each classroom and special area teacher received money in their room accounts for their individual classroom needs. PTA has also worked to encourage our amazing teachers and staff through events like the welcome back breakfast, teacher half-day lunches and a special snack on conference day.
PTA Student Enrichment funds have provided a visit from author Nathan Hale, and we are anticipating a visit from the Nashville Ballet on May 9
th
. PTA supports the BEST Robotics program and sixth grade graduation.
This year PTA has strived to build comradery among Discovery Families with the Boo-Hoo/Yahoo breakfast for Kindergarten parents, Discovery Fest-O-Fall, and the upcoming Discovery Trivia Night.
This year the PTA has funded the ongoing beautification of our building through the school mural project and new flag poles, and we are currently collecting bids for a major landscaping improvement.
Discovery, this is YOUR PTA!
Thank you for selling Smart Cards, attending the spirit nights, buying spirit wear, making donations to the general fund, collecting Box Tops, using your Publix key tag, registering your Kroger card to support Discovery, and for the countless hours of time so many parents have spent serving our school. None of this would be possible without you!
It has been a pleasure serving as your PTA President.
All the Best,
Margaret Bramlett, 2017-2018

SCHOOL BOARD CANDIDATE
|
Discovery School Parent Running for Murfreesboro City School Board
My name is Amanda Moore, and I have been a Discovery School parent for the past eight years. During that time, I served for many years on the PTA Board as member-at-large, volunteers chair, and vice president. I have decided to take this service to our schools to the next level and am running to serve on the school board for Murfreesboro City Schools. The election to fill three seats on the school board is
August 2.
My daughter, Ada Vance, is a 5th grader at Discovery School, and my son, Henry Vance, graduated from 6th grade at Discovery School and is now a 7th grader at Thurman Francis Arts Academy. My husband, Jason Vance, is a librarian at MTSU. I am an attorney, and I've spent my legal career in public service.
