Will Virginia Expand Medicaid?
The Virginia Senate is currently scheduled to consider a budget adopted by the House of Delegates that includes expanding Medicaid eligibility to Virginians at or below 138% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL) ($16,642 for one, $33,948 for a family of 4). Medicaid expansion would help many of your patients and nearly 400,000 eligible adult Virginians by providing health insurance that covers hospitalizations, doctor visits and all of their needed medicines.

2018 Profile of Virginia's Uninsured
- Virginia's rate of uninsured (10.3%) is higher than the national rate of uninsured (9.9%) for the first time.
- 10.3% of Virginians under age 65 are without medical insurance - equaling 718,000 uninsured Virginians.
- More than 40 percent of all uninsured Virginians live below the Federal Poverty Level (43%), and over 70 percent of uninsured adults have incomes at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level (71.7% or 504,000).
- 58.5% of uninsured Virginians work full-time and their families live in households earning less than 200% FPL.
Marley Drug: Extended Supply Generic Drug Program
Looking for ways to save on generics? Marley Drug is an independently owned licensed pharmacy in North Carolina and available to all 50 states. It prices all generic drugs based on what it costs to acquire them. Prescriptions can be e-prescribed, faxed or mailed. Get these select medications in either a 6 month supply for $37 or 12 month supply for $70 and shipping is free! A 30 or 90 day supply is also available with the addition of a $10 shipping fee. Contact Marley Drug at 336-771-7672 for prices on other available generics or to see if a drug is eligible at these prices that is not on the list. This program has recently been added to TPC to make it easy for tracking.
Online Tools to Compare Prescription Drug Prices
Similar to GoodRx, WeRx is another online resource and mobile application that allows people to compare and report prescription drug prices between local pharmacies. Enter a drug name along with a city, state or zip to compare prices and email or print a savings card. Options to select different dosages and the total quantity is also available.
Highlights of Important PAP Updates & Resources
Astellas Patient Assistance Program
is working with a new pharmacy as of
April 1, 2018
that is responsible for sending the following PAP medications:
Astagraf XL, Myrbetriq, Prograf, Vesicare and Xtandi
. The new phone number to use to request refills through the Astellas Patient Assistance Pharmacy-Sonexus Health is 866-448-1695.
Bristol-Myers Squibb
has a new mailing address effective April 30, 2018: PO Box 42316, Cincinnati, OH 45242. Phone and fax numbers along with the application process remain the same.
Daiichi Sankyo's Open Care Program
discontinued Azor, Benicar, Benicar HCT and Tribenzor, which are all used to lower high blood pressure effective March 31, 2018. Check out some alternative brandname and generic options available through other programs here!
GSK's Vaccine Patient Assistance Program now offers Shingrix, a vaccine used to prevent the shingles virus in adults age 50 and older.
Teva Cares Foundation Patient Assistance Program has discontinued Qvar from its program and replaced the product with the Qvar Redihaler, a medicine used in the maintenance and treatment for the prevention and control of asthma.
Wells Specialty Pharmacy, formerly referred to as Xubex prior to the company merge in 2017, no longer operates the Xubex programs for maintenance medications such as the discount program, Preferred Network Program, free trial program or discounted diabetes products effective March 21, 2018. Wells Specialty Pharmacy specializes in prior authorizations for insured patients to obtain specialty medications used to treat Ophthalmologic, Dermatologic, Gastroenterological and Hepatitis C conditions.
Rx Outreach, a non-profit pharmacy offers clinics that sign up to be a Preferred Clinic a 5% discount off the cost of every medication on its formulary! There is no cost to you to sign up.
