SCA Crews Help Kick-Start Boulevard Renewal Project

This summer, work crews from the  Student Conservation Association  (SCA) are removing blackberry and other invasive weeds from the banks of Arboretum Creek. It's part of an 18-month, Foundation-funded project that the Arboretum partners have launched to restore and enhance the plant collections and natural areas along the Lake Washington Boulevard corridor.

Magnolias in the Arboretum

Washington Park Arboretum features one of the larger public collections of magnolias in the United States. These include many summer-blooming trees, such as southern magnolia and sweetbay magnolia (pictured above). In the latest issue of the  Arboretum Bulletin , UW Botanic Gardens plant curator Ray Larson writes about the history of the collection and some of its most notable specimens.
