Hibernation
Life & Times @ Learning Tots Academy
View from the front

Dear LTA Families,

We hope that everyone has had a wonderful week! Last week we wrapped up our theme of Arctic Animals and the brisk, cold weather complimented it well. This week we will dive into Hibernation and Migration. Hibernation occurs when an animal becomes inactive, or "sleeps," during the short, cold days of winter. Hibernating and dormant mammals include bears, squirrels, groundhogs, raccoons, skunks, opossums, dormice, and bats. Migration is the seasonal movement of animals from one region to another. Deer, elk, moose, bighorn sheep, and pronghorn are examples of Idaho mammals that migrate.

Let’s make it a great week!!
Announcements
Reminders
Infant parents please remove your shoes or boots when entering the infant room. Please fill the scorecard and talk to staff if you need to. Don't ask staff to take your baby from you and pass the scorecard to you so you can fill it up without entering. Also don't forget to label bottles, the name and date has to be on the bottle every day.

We need new and updated immunization records for all children who are enrolled with us. The deadline is Jan 31st. If we are missing your immunizations, you will not be able to attend school February 1st onward till you bring them to us.

Your child's cubby needs extra clothes which fit them. We don't have extra clothes in school and sometimes we don't reach you at work when we need the change of clothes. Please check for extra socks, underwear, and 2 pairs of clothes on Monday. Thank you.

Program notes
Spanish with Ms. Angélica
Hello LTA parents,
I am pleased to inform you that we had an amazing week last week. I have to tell you that the children are learning so much every week! The older children always surprise me and the little ones are incredible as they are learning so much! Even babies are very advanced with sign language. This week we have a 2 year old who stood out in the Spanish class by saying colors and numbers! Can you believe it? We also have a teacher, Ms. Wanda, who was amazing in the baby room. She learned the colors in Spanish. Congratulations for such a good job. I enjoy teaching everyone. The word in Spanish and sign language this week is pingüino (penguin). Again it is a pleasure for me to be part of your child's education.
~ Sweetly, Mrs. Angélica
Spanish stars of the week
Lily - Spanish star of the week
Lily is this week's Spanish star.
Kidstunes with Ms Sarah
This week we played several fun games and demonstrated an even deeper understanding of pitch and melodic direction.

We used flash cards and Ms. Sarah’s keyboard to practice our understanding of going up and down the melodic scale. We began with a flash card with a boy walking his dog up a hill, down a hill, or on even ground. We associated these visuals with ascending and descending scales, and practiced identifying what we heard Ms. Sarah play.

***We also have an awesome contest running- please take a picture of me teaching (no children necessary) and post it on the Kidstunes Facebook page to be entered to win a *free* class! Click here for more info:

Please see the full update on the announcement board!
~Sincerely, Ms. Sarah

Doctor tip of the week

The Truth About the Flu Shot

Do you know someone who got the flu right after having the flu shot? We've got the facts you need to protect your family.

This is such a doctor thing, but every year I get excited when the flu vaccine arrives. For me, it signals the start of the holiday season. And, I want everyone to get through the season – all the way from Halloween to Valentine’s Day and the fun in between – without getting sick.

Parent tip of the week

Ways to Soothe Colicky Babies

Odds are, there's no special reason for the fussiness. Try soothing touch, whooshing sounds, and these other remedies.

Swaddle Her: To you, swaddling might feel like being in a straitjacket. But to a crying, fussy baby, it’s like being back in the womb. How tight do you wrap this baby burrito? Snug enough so she can’t wriggle her arms and legs free.

Looking ahead
