Congratulations
Simon
Construction Equipment and Contractors

220 Edwards Ave. Sterling, CO 970-522-3647

Congratulations to Simon, the Logan County Chamber of Commerce Business of the Week. While practicing social distancing, Manager Jeff Harms i s tying two ribbons representing "#tyingthecommunitytogether."

Simon was founded in 1954 by James E. Simon. He was a man who like to play with big toys – the messier the job, the better. The company’s early projects started with minor building, concrete and pipeline construction, and eventually, asphalt work.
To better accommodate increasing asphalt projects, Simon opened as Asphalt plant in North Platte, Neb., in the late 1960’s. This enabled the company to make asphalt a predominate part of Simon’s business.
In the early 1980’s James Simon purchased his first Concrete Ready Mix Plant in Cheyenne, Wyo. This facility empowered Simon to create concrete mixtures offsite and deliver in bulk to construction sites.  This also is where Simon Corporate offices are now located.
By the 2000s, Simon had completed projects in most states west of the Mississippi River, operating as part of Colas North America. Simon operates locations in Nebraska, Wyoming, Colorado, and South Dakota.
In 2000, Simon acquired plants in Ogallala, Neb and Sidney, Neb., In 2004 Simon purchased Sterling Ready Mix and McAtee Construction Company in Sterling, CO. In 2008, Simon acquired plants in Scottsbluff, Neb. and Fort Morgan.
Simon offers the following products and services:
  • Materials: Asphalt, Emulsion, Aggregates, and Ready-Mix Concrete
  • Construction: Asphalt Paving
Simon is a vertically-integrated company. Vertical Integration means that the company produces many of its own raw materials used in construction projects. Examples of vertical integration include production of aggregate materials, ready-mix concrete, and asphalt products.
Here in Sterling the Simon facility is run by the following:
  •  Jeff Harms – Construction Manager
  • Victor Anido – Concrete/Asphalt Manager
  • Mike Weingardt – General Superintendent
  • Pam Claymon – Contract Administrator
  • Jeromy Smith – Project Engineer
  • John Ellis – Paving Superintendent
  • Jim Wheelock – Plant Supervisor
  • Josh Park – Concrete Foreman
All total the Sterling location employees 34 employees, from equipment operators, labors, CDL aggregate drivers, ready mix Drivers, and shop mechanics.
According to Simons, "Come check us out we are located @ 220 Edwards Avenue or call us at 970-522-3647.
  Join us in congratulating the
Simon

If you would like to contribute to Project “Help Out – Carry Out”, your tax-deductible donation may be made through the Logan County Economic Development Corporation, a 501(C)(3) charity. Please make checks out to LCEDC, with “Restaurant Project” in the memo line. The Bank of Colorado has agreed to accept checks at their Drive-Thru Window, in keeping with social-distancing protocol.
The Sterling Community Fund is joining with the Logan County Economic Development Corporation and the Logan County Chamber of Commerce to launch Project “Help Out – Carry Out”, a community effort to benefit all Logan County restaurants.
The concept is simple. Customers at a participating restaurant write a name and phone number on the back of their restaurant receipt, which is then entered in a drawing for a $100 gift card to be used at that restaurant.

Customers may enter drawings multiple times -- each time they make a restaurant purchase – and winners will be announced after the COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.

Gift cards for this project are funded by a Sterling Community Fund Grant, which is being matched by individual contributors.

Find boxes at these locations: The Grill, Hootenannies, Hot Spot - Sterling, Hot Spot - Peetz, J & L Cafe, Cecelia's Kitchen, Lu’s Buffalo Stop, Pizza Hut, Wonderful House, Arby’s, Dairy Queen, Baja, Mi Ranchito, Santiagos, Daylight Donut, Jimmy John’s, Little Caesar’s, Sonic, Parts and Labor, Hot Java, Brew Grit, McCauley’s Mustache Cafe, Taco John’s, Subway, Simkins Parlour, McDonald's, Moma Condes and Overland Trail Cafe at the Ramada.
