"No picture could be more lovely" Exhibition

The "No picture could be more lovely": Ada Shepard with the Hawthornes in Florence, 1858 exhibition lecture series continues on May 5, 2018 at 5:00 p.m. in the Main Library's Periodical Room with Dr. Phyllis Blum Cole speaking on Elizabeth Barrett Browning, Ada Shepard, and the Feminist Fifties. Light refreshments will be served. All are welcome.

Dr. Phyllis Cole has recently retired as Professor Emerita of English, Women's Studies, and American Studies at Penn State Brandywine. A former president of both the Ralph Waldo Emerson and the Margaret Fuller Societies, she is the author of Mary Moody Emerson and the Origins of Transcendentalism:  A Family History (1998), named as Finalist for the James Russell Lowell Prize of the Modern Language Association, as well as many articles about women in and around the movement.

A guided Gallery Tour led by Curator Leslie Perrin Wilson  
will take place on the same day at 10:00 a.m. Open to all.

Celebrate Korean Family Month with members of the Korean Cultural Society of Boston. Make Korean traditional pressed cookies (Dah-shik) and taste (all ingredients will be specified), write calligraphy, make Jaegi (Korean game) and more. Free and open to all.

Celebrate  Korean Family Month with members of the Korean Cultural Society of Boston with a concert of music, dance and song.  The concert features a three drum dance, voice and Korean art song. The concert begins at 7:00 p.m. but the doors will open at 6:00 p.m. for light refreshments. This free event is sponsored by the Friends of the Concord Free Public Library. Join us for a special piano concert to celebrate the life of Sally Chapin.

Sarah (Sally) Sessions Chapin, born in Massachusetts in 1931, lived most of her life in Concord. She was raised on the family farm in Hadley Mass. and earned a BA from Smith and later in life an MeD from Harvard. Sarah was a music teacher, educator and the author of several books, which include a history of Concord. Sarah had many pursuits and interests including art, botany, social work, support and work at the Concord Free Public Library. 

Open to all.

This intergenerational series continues on Saturdays in May at 10:00 a.m. on the Main Library Lawn. All classes are led by certified yoga and mindfulness instructors of Ivy Child International.

Free and open to all ages - no experience necessary. No Pre-Registration Required. Bring a yoga mat, towel, or blanket.
