Welcome New Members New members

On Sunday we warmly welcome the following new members.  Please be sure to introduce yourself to our new members if you have not done so already.

Carol Ketchersid joins us by Letter of Transfer from Monmouth Presbytery since her membership was held there after the closing of the Morning Star Presbyterian Church where she served as an Elder, holding a variety of positions through the years (Financial Secretary, Treasurer, Sunday School Teacher, Administrative Assistant to the Pastor, etc.). Carol was baptized at Watchung Presbyterian Church in in Bloomfield, NJ and raised in Bayville. She moved to Point Pleasant in 1990 with her husband, Bob, and they became the parents of Leigh (26) and Kelly (24). Carol enjoys gardening, biking and travelling. Belonging to a church is very important to her and she is glad to have found a welcoming congregation here.

Karen Baron joins us by Reaffirmation of Faith. Karen was born in Chicago, IL, and lived in Lombard, IL, where, as a teenager, she was baptized at Lombard Mennonite Church. She graduated from Mannes College of Music (NYC), Columbia Teachers College and worked as a Music Teacher teaching violin, piano, vocal and instrumental music in Fort Lee, NJ, until her retirement in 2010. Karen has served as Minister of Music/Music Director at Presbyterian Churches in Leonia, Ramsey and Tenafly. She was married to a math professor and together they raised two sons and a daughter and she is the proud grandmother of 5 grandchildren. As one would expect, Karen enjoys listening to music and playing chamber music, but also travelling, cooking, and theater productions. Living in Brick, this church is close to home, but what most attracted her to PPPC was the Choral Bell Choir, which she describes as the "best team sport ever!"

Ryan Carver joins us by Letter of Transfer from the Presbyterian Church of Toms River. Ryan was born in Point Pleasant Hospital, grew up in Beachwood, and graduated from Toms River High School South. Ryan was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Beachwood. He and Kim Brown were married at the Presbyterian Church of Toms River in 2014 and two years later they moved to Point Pleasant. Ryan is a full-time musician, dividing his time between teaching at a local music school, at his private studio, and playing in various bands. He loves collecting and restoring old drums as well as restoring their lovely 1880s colonial home. Ryan has coached the High School Drum Line and he has already substituted in our Choral Bells Choir.

Kimberly Carver joins us by Letter of Transfer from the Presbyterian Church of Toms River. Baptized at Brick Presbyterian Church, she was confirmed and participated as a member of the Middle and High School Youth Groups at the Presbyterian Church of Toms River where her parents and brother hold ordained offices. She attended the Philadelphia College of Pharmacy where she earned her Doctor of Pharmacy Degree. She has worked as a pharmacist at Ocean Medical Center since 2014. Kim is married to Ryan and they are expecting their first child, due on February 10. In her spare time, Kim enjoys running, biking, reading and travelling. She appreciates being able to walk to a family-friendly church and to worship with familiar rites and traditions.

Families will arrive on Sunday, January 20th and stay for the week. We especially need help with meals and overnights.  Meals can be simple - either store bought or ordered in.

Hospitality Bread Team

Our church is pleased to welcome visitors at the Sunday Service.  To let them know that they are special to us and that we are interested in them, the Hospitality Bread Team hangs a loaf of bread (either homemade or store bought) and a brochure about our church on the visitor's front door. What a welcome surprise to find a caring gift at one's door!  If you would like to become a part of this committee and "spread the word" by delivering bread on a rotating basis, please contact either the church office or Karen Norby at 732-295-8174.

A Reiminder...It is Per Capita Time Again
Per Capita
The way our denomination funds the different levels of ministry support is by requesting each congregation to submit a contribution based on the number of active members.

For 2019 our congregation is expected to contribute $40 times 331 members (the number on the rolls as of the end of 2017). If every member would become personally accountable for this amount, we could easily meet this obligation that sustains the Monmouth Presbytery, the Synod of the Northeast and the General Assembly. During this time of transition, we realize the value of our connectional system that provides available Interim Pastors (like Pastor Osy), liaisons to the Presbytery's Committee on Ministry (like Rev. David Cotton), coaches for our New Beginnings Program discernment stage (like Rev. Jeanne Radak), and eventually, access to the General Assembly's Church Leadership Connection where pastor candidates are matched with congregations seeking new pastors.

None of this could be offered without the support of per capita giving! Please use the per capita envelope in your offering envelope box and indicate "per capita" on the memo line of your check, or you can always use PPPC's convenient online giving option. Thank you for playing an active role in support of the Presbyterian Church (USA)!

Sunday School

The start of a New Year is a fine time to take stock and see how we're doing in all aspects of life. To point us in the right direction, we'll begin 2019 exploring the wisdom of Solomon as recorded in the Book of Proverbs. Specifically we'll highlight:
  •     Doing what you should can keep you safe.
  •     Think before you lose your temper.
  •     Choose your words carefully.
  •     Know when to stop.
Our "Life App" this month is Self-Control-Choosing to do what you should even when you don't want to. We'll talk about drawing on God's strength while exploring how to make wise choices and exercise self-control in keeping with God's character. Please check our Preview Video for January.

If your child hasn't visited us yet at Sunday School, the New Year brings an opportunity for a fresh start! You can download the  Sunday School Registration Form online and bring it to church on Sunday.
