Pocahontas Parkway tolls to increase on April 1, 2019
RICHMOND, Va. (March 21, 2019) – Tolls for two-axle vehicles on Pocahontas Parkway will rise to $4.50 at the Main Toll Plaza and to $2.60 at the Laburnum/New Market and Airport Drive ramp toll points, beginning April 1, 2019.

The toll increase is in accordance with the applicable schedule of permitted toll increases approved by the Virginia Department of Transportation in 2006.

Tolls on the Parkway were last raised in January 2018, to $4.30 at the Main Plaza and $2.45 at the secondary toll points, for two-axle vehicles. Vehicles with multiple axles – trucks and passenger cars hauling trailers – pay an additional surcharge depending on the number of axles, up to a maximum of six.
Those traveling on Pocahontas Parkway pay either the Main Plaza price or the lower price at a ramp toll point, but never both during a single trip. The price paid depends on the individual trip. The higher price is charged to customers who pass through the Main Plaza and cross the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Bridge over the James River. The lower price charged to customers who do not pass through the Main Plaza on a trip between a ramp toll point and Interstate 295.

Pocahontas Parkway receives no state or federal financial support and is solely dependent on toll revenues for all operations, maintenance, and financing costs. The Parkway is operated by privately held Pocahontas Parkway Operations, LLC, under an agreement
with the Virginia Department of Transportation.

Why are the tolls increasing on Pocahontas Parkway?

Tolls may be increased in accordance with the Concession Agreement between VDOT and Pocahontas Parkway, which allows a provision to adjust tolls to match changes in the overall economy.

How are the toll fees collected on Pocahontas Parkway used?

Because Pocahontas Parkway receives no state or federal financial support, collected fees are dedicated to both maintenance and operation of the road, including snow removal and motorist assistance in case of a traffic accident. Fees are also used to fund future repaving projects.

Have there been any recent improvements to the road or the services that Pocahontas Parkway provides?

Over the past year, Pocahontas Parkway carried out a complete renovation of the pavement on main travel lanes as well as the Airport Connector. Pocahontas Parkway has also invested in new technology to provide secure, accountable alternatives for customers to easily pay at both the manual toll lanes and at the ramps. These recently implemented improvements allow customers to easily use either cash and credit cards to pay tolls wherever they enter Pocahontas Parkway. In addition, Pocahontas Parkway performs proactive routine maintenance on Vietnam Veterans Bridge over I-95 as well as overpasses and bridges associated with Pocahontas Parkway. Pocahontas Parkway also provides winter maintenance and prompt snow removal services to ensure a safe, smooth trip for travelers during winter months.
