“September days are here, with summer’s best of weather and autumn’s best of cheer.”
— Helen Hunt Jackson (poet)
“Winter is an etching, Spring a watercolor, Summer an oil painting, and Autumn a mosaic of them all.”

Our World as God’s Palette
Here, Sister Amata Shina offers her reflections
on the wonders of autumn and shares a favorite seasonal poem
Beauty is the shadow of God on the universe! Autumn, with the changing colors of the leaves, reminds me of God, the Artist. It is during this season that he colors the world with every imaginable autumn color from his masterstroke of palette and brush. He is busy with his palette of paints and his brushes, creating colorful tapestries all over Mother Earth. Autumn is a good time to focus on God’s wonderful blessings – family, friends, strength, shelter, care, guidance, ministry, more time to pray and study His word. It’s a good time to focus on our commitment to our God.

An Autumn Prayer
Abba, Father, the trees are ablaze with your glory.
The seasons change, but you never do.
You are always beautiful, in the green and freshness of spring
as in the golds and reds and chills of autumn.
Make me like you.
Let my life reflect your beauty, season after season,
as the calendar of my life turns and turns and turns.

The trees are letting go of this year's foliage.
Help me let go of both blessings and burdens,
and surrender them both to your loving care.

Fallen leaves pattern the ground with variety.
So design my own fallings and failings
into whatever design will please you most.
In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
One-on-One with Our Sisters
September transports us into fall, foliage and the trappings of autumn.
What do you treasure most about the autumn season?: “Autumn is my all time favorite season. The colors of the leaves instill such a beauty that warms my heart. The eventual letting go and returning to the earth teaches me about changes in my life. I learn that the nakedness, loss and cold of winter enables me to experience the fresh green and vibrancy of spring. In the midst of changes, there is always hope.”

Fall Fun on the Family Farm
Fall at the Kuzma farm and household meant picking apples and anything still growing in the garden. We would climb the trees, grab an apple, rub it in our pants, and eat it right up there! It was lots of fun to be at the farm, and I treasure those memories. Today, the old farm has so many memories for all of us. It always was the best time of the summer. Once school started, we came home and did our homework. Then right after dinner, we would head to the basement to help my mom peel apples or help with anything that she was canning.
