SENIOR SPOTLIGHT
Destiny T. & Chase S.
Congratulations to both students who received full tuition scholarships to University of Miami in Florida!
Destiny and Chase will be moving to Miami this Fall.
1. What excites you the most about going to college out of state?
Destiny:
I'm super excited for new people with different backgrounds and the amazing weather!
I'm going to love being in Miami as there's so much culture, beautiful beaches, boats, and great night life. I'm ready to wear shorts and sandals to class everyday. The cherry on top is that I'll be moving down to Miami with one of my best friends Destiny. We're going to have so much fun it's unbelievable.
2. What are you most scared of about Freshman year?
Destiny:
I am definitely scared of being homesick and missing my family while I'm at school.
Chase:
The only thing I can truly say I'm scared of is losing touch with certain relationships that I have in Maryland. Though I'm super excited to make great new friends at the University of Miami, I still love the people that I have in my life right now and will do my best to keep those relationships alive.
3. What did you like most about visiting the University of Miami?
Destiny:
What I really liked about the campus was that everyone there was so kind and genuine. The professors, students, admissions directors were all super nice. Everyone had a smile on their face and really wanted to make the students feel welcomed.
Chase:
The staff and students are all super outgoing, like me! Walking around campus I noticed that many of the students put an emphasis on working out and being healthy which is very important to me. I'll fit right in! Everywhere I turned I saw activities ranging from sweet concerts to people tanning under one of the hundreds of palm trees on campus. To put it quite frankly - it's beautiful.
4. What advice do you have for class of 2019?
Destiny:
Senior year is stressful and demanding, but don't let that discourage you. Work smart, not hard. You'll have tons of deadlines to meet all within days of each other, so never leave things for last minute. When CollegeTracks asks you to come in, do it and never be afraid to ask for help. Try to enjoy your last year of high school next year as much as you can because it'll go by quicker than you think.
Chase:
Keep calm and come to CollegeTracks. It's an amazing program. I don't know where I would be without it. In fact, I didn't even know how much I needed CollegeTracks until I had actually joined and been walked through the college application process. It's a lot to tackle, but with the help of CollegeTracks my experience was smooth (which it may not have been otherwise). In addition, when choosing schools to apply to, you should choose schools that you like. It may seem like a no-brainer, but when I decided to apply to only four schools I received some pretty shocked faces from other people who had applied to 7-12 schools. No one should feel pressured to apply to more schools just because their current list doesn't have as many schools as others' lists do. After all, those are the places you, and not anyone else, could be spending the next four years of your life! So make sure it's somewhere that you love.

- Need to turn in financial paperwork? Come to CollegeTracks as soon as possible to complete your forms.
- Sign up for the CollegeTracks Success Program so you can take CollegeTracks to college and get support while you are at MC.
- Be sure you've taken the Accuplacer placement exam. If you haven't taken the Accuplacer, schedule your appointment at MC here.

- Think about your plans for transportation to campus in the fall.

NAME: B Davis Scholarship
DUE DATE: May 22, 2018
AMOUNT: $2,000
ELIGIBILITY: This is not an academic scholarship, but we would like to know where you are going to school now and what your future career plans are. To apply, you will need to write an essay of 1000 words on this topics: "Describe 3 characteristics of leadership you value most. Discuss why you believe these traits are so important and how you feel they are developed in an individual.
NAME: Hispanic Achievement Scholarship
DUE DATE: May 30, 2018
AMOUNT: $2,000
ELIGIBILITY:
High school GPA of 2.5 or greater, must attend a Maryland college or university in the Spring. Significant contribution of voluntary community service in the last 12 months. Must be a U.S. citizen, resident, or dreamer (as defined by the Dream Act). Must have proof of financial need to continue higher education.
NAME: Fifth Month Scholarship
DUE DATE: May 31, 2018
AMOUNT: $1,500
ELIGIBILITY: Must be a legal resident, be currently enrolled or enroll in an accredited post-secondary institution in the fall
DUE DATE: May 15, 2018
AMOUNT:$500
ELIGIBILITY: Maryland students participating in the campaign and include the hashtag #CollegianceMD will be eligible to win $500.

COLLEGE SPOTLIGHT!
WEST VIRGINIA UNIVERSITY
DID YOU KNOW?
West Virginia University is a 4 year public institution that was founded in 1867. It has a total undergraduate enrollment of 28,776 its setting is rural, and the campus spans over 1,892 acres.
West Virginia University is apart of the Academic Common Market for the state of Maryland. This means that if a student desires to pursue a degree program that is not offered in Maryland they may attend a out of state academic common market school at the in state tuition rate. Some of the eligible degree programs include: Agroecology, Bio-medical Engineering, and Design and Merchandising!
After amassing 3,419 Receiving Yards, 2,840 Return Yards and 75 total touchdowns West Virginia star Tavon Austin was drafted in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft. Austin was selected with the eighth pick by the Los Angeles Rams.
