April is National Poetry Month
|
|
Celebrate April and National Poetry Month with the Rodgers Library! We are accepting entries for our Annual Poetry Contest throughout April, with prizes

awarded in the following age categories:
- Second grade and younger,
- Grades 3-5,
- Grades 6-8,
- Grades 9-12 and
- Adults.
The deadline for submissions is Tuesday, April 30.
There are various ways to submit your poem. You can:
- Use the Poetry Entry Form here.
- Submit a poem written on paper. Please include your name, grade (or 'adult') and phone number on your entry.
- Paper entries may be mailed to the library to: Poetry Contest/Amy Friedman,194 Derry Road, Hudson, NH, 03051.
- Poems may also be dropped off at the library, at the senior center, or with your public school librarian.
- Email your poem to askus@rodgerslibrary.org. You may type the poem into the body of the email, or attach it as a PDF or a Word doc.

Make a Stained Glass Mosaic Tile

Join glass artist Leslie Doherty from Ways of Color for this hands-on mosaic workshop. Each participant will make a 6” square mosaic that can be used as a trivet or decoration.
- This workshop is for children ages 8 and up, teens and adults. Children must be accompanied by an adult, they can work on a project together or each do their own project.
- There is a $10 per project materials charge for this workshop.
- Pre-registration is required, last minute space may be available on a limited basis.

Murder and mayhem, robbery and rapine, love that cuts to the bone: American ballads re-tell the wrenching themes of their English and Scottish cousins. John Perrault talks, sings, and picks the strings that bind the old ballads to the new.
Transplanted in the new world by old world immigrants, the traditional story-song of the Anglos and Scots wound up reinvigorated in the mountains of Appalachia and along the Canadian border.

Wax Dyed Egg Workshop

Decorate your own holiday egg using a wax-resist method on a real egg. This distinctive craft is popular throughout the Baltic region.Melt beeswax over a candle, draw lines of wax on a raw egg with a metal pin, dip the egg in dye, and watch your pattern appear.
No artistic talent or prior experience required.

Nearly all Americans are affected by exposure to non-stick chemicals in food, drinking water, and consumer products. You're invited to learn more about this issue and how to protect yourself and your family with a post film discussion with environmental scientist Mindi Messner.
This program is co-sponsored by the NH Safe Water Alliance and the Hudson Democrats.

(Hobblebush Books, 2019), is the very first behind-the-scenes look at what made these pop-up stars tick.
As a TV co-host of nearly 300 candlepin bowling episodes in Boston and New Hampshire, Morin got to know the players personally.
