Boulevard Principal
Happy New Year, Boulevard Families!
I trust everyone enjoyed a happy, healthy Winter Break and is now thrilled that the kids are back in school! I am very pleased to report that the students have had a productive week of learning.
On Wednesday of this week, we conducted our first school-wide PBIS celebration. PBIS stands for Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports and focuses on catching students being good in order to promote even more positive behavior. The entire school celebrated the positive behavior we have experienced this far in the school year, and every student received a bracelet extolling the benefits of positive behavior.
Please be reminded there will be no school for students on Monday, January 15, 2018 due to Martin Luther King, Jr. Day or Friday, January 19, 2018 due to a professional learning day for teachers.
Sincerely,
Neal Robinson

MLK Day of Service - Save the date and donate!
On January 15, 2018, MLK Day, Shaker students, staff and their families will gather at SHHS to do service projects to support neighbors experiencing homelessness, build community and celebrate Dr. King's
legacy
of service. Please plan to attend with your family!
Woodbury and SMS families will make personal care kits for teens in transition and foster care served by YWCA and Metro Health. Each kit costs about $10 and will include hygiene items, art supplies, and snacks suggested by our partner agencies. We'll package the kits in cloth bags created from t-shirts.
Boulevard, Fernway, Lomond, Mercer and Onaway families will make fleece blankets, and assemble water bottles with flavor tabs for children served by Bellefaire JCB. Each blanket costs about $10.
In advance of the event, we need your help!
* Drop-off clean plastic bags at several sites across the city - they will be used to make durable sleeping mats for the homeless.
for more information.
*
Contribute clean, gently used T-shirts that will be up cycled into cloth bags for care kits. Email
Stacey
to donate.
*
Make a donation
here
to allow us to buy materials to make warm fleece blankets and scarves, and create "care kits" that provide clean socks, personal products, and a snack. It's easy to give at whatever amount is comfortable for you.
Thank you for helping us build "beloved community" in Shaker!

Artsonia
Boulevard has started using
Artsonia
to create digital art portfolios for the 2017-2018 school year! Each student has an online gallery with his or her art work starting with this school year until they graduate from Boulevard! It is a great way to showcase and share students' creativity, art knowledge, and developing art skills! If you missed the letter that went home with directions for signing up online, please email your student's art teacher and we will send it to you! Ms. Gosses can be emailed at
gosses_a@shaker.org
and teaches the Monday and Wednesday art classes. Mrs. Ely can be emailed at
ely_j@shaker.org
and teaches the Tuesday and Thursday art classes. If you have any questions or if you would like to help us photograph and upload student art, please let us know.
